I had just learned how to stop, then when playing Tag had a head-on collision with another skater (another fur, too!) and dislocated my shoulder, because I panicked and froze up instead of stoping.
I still skate but not as frequently, don't play tag and un-learned how to stop, and most of that is because I don't have my own skates and rentals are CRAP.
I can slow down but not *stop*.

We just turned up and one guy fursuited, staff loved it, at both local arenas. Won best dressed at a cowboys and indian themed party in a dragon-wolf-monster fursuit... go figure. That arena started to charge people full skating fare just to spectate so we don't go to that one anymore, shame because its 5 min from my house. I'm still not brave enough to do it in full suit yet, but I'm getting better!
Haha, that's pretty silly. Weren't even a cowboy or indian? :p I'm glad they were very welcoming to you guys. It's general practice for me to ask permission first of management to be safe. I wouldn't want to be asked to leave right as entering; however, some seeing it in person may welcome it compared to a call/email.
That's too bad about charging full amount for spectators, but maybe they had some cheat the system before and skate. Maybe you can work out a deal with management.

We asked permission to suit. The cowboys and indians thing was total chance, and nobody dressed up other than staff.
As for the charge to spectate, at that arena I used to go there all the time, we never paid to spectate. One night we all got stopped by someone we had never seen before (assuming owner) and "oh you've got to pay to enter, even spectators", we explained that we were regulars, went there weekly, never had to pay to spectate before, presumable owner said its been that way for years. While I was trying to explain I was a regular that has never had to pay to spectate, the skate rental guy walked past and greeted me by name, owner still argued and was quite rude about it. Never been back, lost 4 regular and a handful more occasional skaters business to the competitor. All the spectators would spend money in the cafe anyway. Been back once since and the place was dead, maybe 10 people on the ice.
Going skating in an hour, hope to be able to hockey stop by the end of the night ^_^, i'm getting closer at it.

You can just stand there, put pressure on the skate to get and idea of the general angle of where your leg needs to be to be able to stop (At least with your outside leg), then start moving slowly and doing that angle. Eventually you can do it with both feet together. That's how I learned.
Yes, initially I learned on rental skates and could just slide, eventually I could slide okay but being rentals, would be different every session. Since my injury and buying my own skates, I started doing it that way again but there is much more grip (a good thing) and sort of got the hang of it, but only watched a video advising what you just said before last time. But there were too many people to stay stationary for more than a few seconds last session.
Practice makes perfect! I'll get it! Then I'll try going backwards. Backwards is cool, but stopping is more important.
