personification of mechanical objects really does not require the cleche' of faces.
even as in infant, perhaps especially as an infant, faces on mechanical objects were always creepy for me.
as an infant, (and as an adult too, if your smart enough not to throw it away), there is an insatiable thirst to understand how things actually work.
putting a face on it is like saying its a god, it works by magic, and that's all you ever need to know.
its really an affront to the natural thurst for useful knowledge.
not that i'm in any way offended by the good intentions that some how failed to consider this and take it into consideration.
