Am I multi-talented now? :O
Apologies for the length, but this is a collection of 24 different song-bytes I've had lying around on my hard drive FOREVAR. These are choruses and sometimes verses that I've never done anything with, but that I remember or want to remember the melodies to. I figured it wouldn't be a bad idea if I shared these with you all, as an example (both good and bad) of my songwriting. This is a prelude of things to come: as soon as I can figure out how to simulate a band, I'm going to start recording demos of my full songs, of which there are... about a dozen, it seems.
Major points if you know why I named this Fingertips. :3
Now, if you'll let me, I'm going to talk a little about each songlet; feel free to read along, there's a second and a half of silence between each, so hopefully you can follow what's what. c.c
Amy Got Arrested
I actually wrote this while setting up this entire idea. I just started thinking about Ben Folds (greatest songwriter of our time, btw) and how he's always writing simple songs about people he knows and things that happen to him. Apologies to the real Amy, she's not like this. D: The first line is meant to be the end of a verse.
Angela Angel
Old, old song, written for
Calorath's then-girlfriend, now-wife, Lyra. :3 They both loved it. This is a new recording; I'm actually a little miffed that this song has been around for so long, yet I never finished it. Meant to be a boy band/pure pop style.
Apocalypse Easy
A bit of an experiment in lo-fi indie pretention. Lyrics were no doubt inspired by something I misheard (that happens a lot, you'll see). This recording was also my first experiment with some vocal layering. It didn't come out too well, but I was in a bit of a rush. ._. The lyrics you should be paying attention to are "You're apocalypse easy to know how to live and to die for/You're apocalypse easy to know how to shop and to buy for".
B.V.I.H.
I love hair metal. :3 This is just an orgasm of the silly heights that 80's music reached (in the 90's c.c). If the title reads like a bad porn, that's intentional. XD I'm not sure how exactly you would get a real rock-choral effect, but just having more than one voice singing was good enough for this recording; it doesn't sound the best, really, but I was having way too much fun recording it to really care.
Better Off Waiting
A juvenile song about abstinence. I keep it around because I like the way the 'gonna's' shift in the chorus. I've since lost my virginity and found out, you really can go back, it's not hard. ._. *sigh*
Come With Me
I think this one came out of something misheard. Fun to sing, no idea where it could go though. Sort of a Jimmy Eat World punk-rock style.
Down Low
Inspired by my little foray into a GLBT Studies minor. Another one that's fun to sing. All the songs prior to this one (all six!) were recorded the other day, and this one was the first where I used layering to increase the volume. Much better than using an equalizer, I think. Anyway, this one's pretty long, compared to most of the other songs, but I'm not satisfied enough with it to proclaim it 'done'.
Everybody's Friend
Okay, if it sounds like I'm eating cotton while singing, don't worry, that's intentional. See, if I ever start releasing music for real, it'll be under a number of different names, and a few of these names come as 'characters'. This song, being inspired by Green Day, fits well with the "Sucks" name, the lead singer of which has a severe speech impediment, my little dig on Billy Joe.
Fantasy
Back when boy bands were popular (that oughta date this entire pack), I thought they would be far better if they sang about interesting things; this was my answer to that dilemma. I don't have a good voice for boy banding. D:
Get With It
I really wish I could come up with some verses for this song. >.< It's a little indie dance rock, the first song I put under the name "This Popcorn and Butter Business". It's about having a small dick. c.c
Give Me California
This isn't really a song. It's just a demonstration of my girly voice. :O The lyrics are based on some song I misheard, and that's about all there is to it.
I Am America
"And so can you!" This one just came to me fairly recently. I left out the verse parts because they're not really ready yet; as it is, this is a composition of a number of ideas for the chorus, so it's not even a coherent idea yet. But I really love what I've got here, and I hope I can expand it later.
Love Is a Four-Letter Word
Someone's already written a song with this title. It was a hair metal band, too. D: Ugh. This is very Bon Jovi.
Metro Radio
The first under the name "Carman's River", a little folksy singer/songwriter outfit that was the result of a music meme in which you use the 'random article' function on Wikipedia to come up with titles for the band, album, and songs. I don't know if I'll ever actually attempt to make the album (I've forgotten the name), but I liked the band name, and this song just happened out of the title. There's more to it, by the way, but it's never been very coherent in my mind, so I'm just giving you the chorus.
My Girl's a Shemale
Oh shit. XD I left this one in for the lulz.
Open Road
Inspired by, of all things, mishearing of Demon Hunter lyrics. No meaning whatsoever.
Partying With Me
Another really old song that I was actually surprised to find I hadn't made any verses to. o.O I mean, I've had an idea for the music video for a decade now! I planned this to be the title track for Facetious' second album. But Facetious never happened. At least, not the first time. If you construe the lyrics to be about masturbation, that's okay with me, even if it was unintentional.
Rachel Lee Cook
Uh, yeah, if you never saw Josie and the Pussycats (the movie), you won't get this. And if you did, yes, I am ashamed of myself. I still think it's kind of funny, though.
Rock 'n Roll
There are like, a millionty-one songs called "Rock 'n Roll" that are about rock 'n roll. This is mine. Again, I can't figure out how to do a rock choral effect.
SammaRamma (Get Over It)
Ska/big band song about nothing at all. Seriously, that's just a nonsense word in the title.
The Fandumb Song
You know, I'm never one to really toot my own horn, but THIS IS FUCKING BRILLIANT, and especially given the recent drama, my timing could not be more impeccable. :3 I've been working on a second verse since rediscovering this song, one about FA.
Calorath gets his second mention here; apparently, he is inspiring or something.
There's No Such Thing as Constructive Whining
There isn't. If I ever flesh this one out, it will no doubt set up the chorus lyrics as ironic. I think I forgot the melody on three separate occasions.
untitled
Nobody hate me, please? This is my System of a Down tribute, with lyrics I would like to think are along the lines of what they would write. It's also about my views on pregnancy. I've begun considering a second verse, about deadbeat fathers or something, so the women don't feel singled out.
Weird Al Yankovic
Yeah, I'm a huge Weird Al fan. This is my tribute to him, and to fannishness, and to the things Weird Al tends to write songs about. :3 Unlike the other entries, where I might have included the opening verse and a chorus, or just a spot that could be anywhere in a song, this is actually the end of the song. I've never considered this to really be worth expanding, but I include it here nevertheless.
I had to nix the bitrate a bit for this to fit, since it's 10 minutes. D: Thumbnail made by Tracy Pierce... or, rather, cropped from a badge I commissioned from her. :B That's me, singin'!
