This is a most observant observation. :)
The Haposaurs are actually loosely based on Yoshies. I wanted to create a world with cute dinosaurs who cared and loved like Yoshies did in Yoshi's Island. So I worked to develop some unique characteristics, original characters, and here we are.
Nintendo really is missing out on the true marketing potential of Yoshi. Diapers would be so cute if covered in cute little Yoshies. So would infant and toddler clothes. Baby toys would also be great with a dash of Yoshi.
Oh well though. Nintendo is able to do what they want with their characters and me,
Nishi, and
daigonite can do what we want with ours. :)

The Baby Yoshi in PM: TTYD was very cute. Not only did he have a diaper but he also is the first Yoshi I've ever seen to have hair. Very cute and cool.
I've had a theory that each different island of Yoshies have different abilities. This could make up for how Yoshies appear differently as babies between Super Mario World and Yoshi's Story. It also could further justify why Yoshies on Delfino Island can't mix with water while other Yoshies are strong swimmers.
Having a different variation based on island would make so much sense. Nintendo doesn't seem able to make up their mind on what Yoshi should look like, do, etc. So Yoshies from different islands would, in my opinion, make the most sense. :)

It's an adorable story I wrote based on some wonderful tales shared with me by
daigonite along with being inspired by Silly Filly Studios' epic work, Snowdrop.
The original story and text for the illustrated children's book is done. All that remains is making the art to coincide with the book and we've got Twinkle Morningdew.
Thanks for your encouragement and inspiration, Ozzie. *Crinklehugs* It is always appreciated. :)
