Yes, I exagerate, but really, its pretty shocking just how dated some classic comic books get, not just in writing style and feel, but even the writing. Even if you ignore the unsettingly outdated gender and racial roles, which were still liberal compared to the decade before, most superhero, and other comics too for that matter, of the Silver Age are almost unerving to read today.

That is MUCH closer to comfort than Marvel would ever admit. Seriously, when Falcon was introduced, that was basically his whole character.
Of course, we're talking about a comic book landscape where the first ever black main character, a western comic called Lobo, was cancelled after two issues because retailers refused to sell it. Because everyone pre-1990 was the worst people in the world.

Not really. Turns out the introverted basement dwellers that the publishers seem to market to the most are both misogynist and SUPER racist. Remember when they announced that Johnny Storm was going to be black in the new Fantastic Four reboot? You'd think they had announced that the movie would consist entirerly of kitten stabbin footage.
I feel you. I found a two-volume dictionary from the early twenties at a thrift store, and being as I am the type of person who can enjoy reading a dictionary, I started looking up random words. I don't know what made me look up that particular word, but... there were four pages of related definitions. Four. Fucking. Pages.
