Griffin Ranger Kickstarter!
After taking forever to get this thing ready, I've finally launched the Kickstarter for my book. Griffins, parrots, anthro wolves and little raccoon/lemur creatures! Lots of action and fighting! A bird-of-paradise griffin who hates getting his feathers mussed, but they end up very mussed by the end of the book!
The fabulous
Eskiworks is slated to do the cover art, so if you want to see her do some cool griffins, lets get this funded.

Hey. Saw your KS on the site. It's been awhile.
I've tossed it to a few people I know, and they had some issues with the pitch. A lot of it revolves around the dollar amount and where it’s going. Questions of why aren’t you pushing a preorders or an order by request/demand model over a printing in bulk model, why isn’t the publisher footing the costs, how do you know the printing cost when they vary and flux, that KS isn’t a good place to push a novel, etc. One of the more useful critics suggested that there should be more of a push for advertising, for preorders or just to let people know the book exists. Dunno how or where, but there you go. Maybe a banner ad like the ones right below this reply I'm typing?
I’d say push out an update giving exact numbers on where the money is going and the long and ugly history of the novel and the refusal of picking it up by the various publishers. It's also best to have updates every three or four days, even if it's just citing the amount donated and minor details about the setting.

The money amount is me actually trying to be fiscally responsible, believe it or not. I wanted to make absolutely sure there would be enough to cover everything. A lot of people pay for editing and cover art out of their own pockets first, but i am not in a position to do that. I did have a friend who is a CPA do the numbers for me, including taxes and fees, which a lot of people don't figure in. If, miracle of miracles, I actually make the funding goal, I'd be in deep doo-doo if I didn't have enough money to cover all expenses, since I'd be unable to pay for any shortfall myself.
If people specifically ask about the history of the book (re. trying to get it published) I'd be happy to tell them, but since it's kind of a negative story, I didn't want to make it part of the pitch. Complaining about being lied to or mistreated by publishers just wouldn't look good.
Since Furplanet will be doing the print job, I can't expect them to pay for all of it out of their own pocket. So part of the money will go to the physical printing and shipping.
I'd done up a cost breakdown pie chart, so I will post it in the next day or so. And yes, I am planning to get the word out more extensively. Just give me a few days.

Cool. I get what that section of the KS page was saying, it just didn't work for some people I guess.
Once upon a time citing issues with publishers might've improved funding. After the fucking failures of the nostalgia-driven video game KSes though, probably not so much.
I'll keep pushing it and drawing feedback meantime.
