Finally getting to the military side of Dark Space's ships.
This military Light Frigate is the most common sight in the navy. Designed for escort duty and patrols, it is also the second-smallest capital ship in use.
This well-armed vessel carries fifty laser and machine gun point defense weapons, six heavy triple-barreled rail guns, and six multi-missile pods. Defensive shielding protects the Frigate from most attacks, but it is vulnerable in the underside and rear, as there are few defensive guns in those areas.
A sophisticated communications array and sensory relay allows the Light Frigate to contact vessels that aren't in direct line of sight, as well as tag threats more easily. The crew of a Frigate often sees danger coming before other ships do. It doesn't carry any fighters, so it must rely on other ships and its own defenses in combat.
Powered by a thirty-engine stacked setup, the Light Frigate is quite fast, despite its size. It can easily outrun pursuers and maneuver quickly, allowing it to outperform most heavier vessels.
This Light Frigate and Dark Space universe are mine.

Most modern supercarriers lie around the 300 meter mark in terms of length, and compared to standard frigates those are quite large.
Now I don't want to nit-pick the justification you have for that kind of size, but I have to ask: Where are they getting all the materials for that kind of size, especially since (I assume) a lot of those will be deployed?

Supercarriers are big, heavy objects; they're also slow and cumbersome. The point of this light frigate is to be small and maneuverable while well-armed enough to handle themselves in most situations. Future technology here (as far as ships go) is beginning to rely more on speed and power than on mass.
As far as resources for construction, asteroid mining and the exploitation of other planet's resources. Same as always. There are new advances such as carbon-based materials generation and production, but it's still too expensive and limited to Earth at the moment.

Well, even in space there are elements of gravitational pull from stars, planets, etc, which can impact how a ship works. The technology of engines isn't as advanced as it could be in this universe; generally, the bigger ships are slower because they use somewhat inefficient tech to propel them. But that's okay, because they don't need to be as quick. Frigates are made to be fast and deadly, Destroyers are to be faster and deadlier, Auxilaries are to be faster, Battleships are slower but better armed, Carriers are slower but carry the most stuff, and Crusiers are slow by terrifyingly well-armed.
