Adorable little buggers, aren't they?^^ Mine is completely white and she had the same color her entire life.
Unfortunately she is getting old quite quickly now... Her eyes are foggy, she has that typical hunchback and since she can't see properly anymore she has started to bite anything that moves. Including my fingers.

they are! ah that's interesting! i've had 5 winter whites in my time, two boys who would go from pure white almost to white with a black stripe in summer, two girls who were both dark anyway so never changed, (here's a snap of them- http://fav.me/d5w6tzw ) and then truffle here who has changed quite a lot! she used to be almost pure white :o
ah, that's a shame :( i'm not sure how old truffle is as she's a rescue hamster, but she's at least a year old...she's begun to be a snappier also, so i think she may be quite a bit older!

It depends on many things whether they change color or not^^ It's mostly genetic.
Dwarf hamster have an average life expectancy of two years. Three years if you care for them well.
And the really weird thing is that hamsters can die in a blink of an eye. They just sorta stop working, to put it bluntly :P It usually happens when they sleep, but it can just as well happen when they are eating.
Mine is now roughly 2 years and 9 months old. I got her in early November of 2011 and at that point she was already between 2 and 3 month old.

yes, i've also read that it mostly depends on changing light levels in spring and autumn too! really interesting.
yeah, i've had 10 hamsters in my life xDD to be honest most of mine have slowly gotten worse and had to either be put down or we knew they were gunna pass away actually! never had a suprise death sorta thing to my knowledge...i think my oldest hammy was a syrian who reached almost 3 years, the rest of mine have lasted 1.5 to 2 years, so pretty good!
wow, that's super old, awesome! she must be really well looked after x33

I like to think that I looked well after her^^;
But she has a huge cage (1.5 meters long, 60cm wide and 60cm tall, I could put my mom in there! XD) and I always bought the best hamster food for her. I also gave her a lot of fresh food like apples, salad... and living moths! XD Trust me, hamsters can be REALLY scary and dangerous when you give them a living moth that is almost as big as the hamster herself! X3 She always gets really excited when I give her one of those!
Another hamster I had always got flies to eat. I caught them alive and fed them to her. She loved them and at the end she was slightly over three years old^^

aw that's so so wonderful! it upsets me that a lot of the time hamsters end up as unloved pets for little kids who dont care for them properly (speaking as someone who had hamsters as a child and lost interest quickly!) now I have them as an adult, I appreciate how much love and care they need a lot more :3 especially seeing as though 3 of my 4 hammies are rescues, one who was never bought so just left in the pet shop and 2 who were bought for children who then decided they didnt want them :c so sad!
That is sad. Although from what I can see, hamsters are actually very independant. My hamsters always prefered to stay inside their cage. When I let them out they ran around the room for 5 minutes and then they started to climb up my leg because they wanted to go back in their cage. I guess they get addicted to those wheels...
But even though she is so old, my current hamster still likes to dig tunnels in the cage amd she still is pretty active overall.

Yeah, they can entertain themselves but often kids are too lazy to clean em out and keep em healthy :/
Aw :) my hammies are all different...Truffle LOVES attention and wants to be held all the time, while Kato is just nosey and wants to see whats going on and Poppet is really shy...Merle is still coming out of his shell...ah I love my hams I could talk about em all day xD
