A More Advanced Approach
I took this picture up in Irvine while I was waiting for Califur IV to begin. I shot it using the "Monochrome" setting using a Canon 50 mm prime lens (meaning lens is only 50 mm and I can't zoom in or out), along with a Tiffen Red 25 filter, giving the normally light, washed out sky a darker tone, as well as an overall increased tonal contrast, meaning that where the image would otherwise have looked like it had a flat gray all over, the image is now closer to having true blacks and whites, with more visible gradations in between. I used Photoshop only slightly to make those blacks pop out a little more, but that was about it.
Shot using a 10-megapixel Canon Rebel XTi, 50 mm prime lens, and a Tiffen Red 25 filter.
