Rene knew there was going to be trouble the second he walked through the door. It could've been the heavy tension in the air that sent Rene's fur standing on end, it could've been the awful twisting sensation Rene had in his guts—and since he hadn't been to Apesta's today he couldn't blame it on that—or it could've been simply the sight of his father sitting at the kitchen table as he walked in; waiting for him.
Robert Vulpes NEVER waited for Rene to come home from school. No one had waited for Rene to come home from school since Vera's accident. An icy cold feeling of dread worked its way up his spine, threatening the internal fire in the center of his being. “...is something wrong?” Rene worked up the effort to ask, his voice cracking slightly.
His father shot him the same disdainful, lip curling sneer that Rene had come to know all too well since his mom's accident. Rene felt his finger's twitch as the urge to wrap his fingers arounds his father's throat and squeeze until he wiped that sneer off almost overpowered him.
For a long minute Robert Vulpes said nothing. He waited, drawing out the moment until after what seemed like forever he commented, “...I hear you've started dating.” He commented, as if on the weather.
Rene's mouth went dry. “From where would you hear THAT?” He asked in as challenging a voice as he could muster. He needn't have spoken for his father stood up, hands clasped behind his back and promptly ignored the question.
“Really now...” His nostrils flaring as if detecting a foul smell. “I knew I couldn't hope to expect for much from you, but even *I* thought you'd have the sense—to say nothing of the taste—to choose better than a POISON type!”
Fur bristling, tails twitching, Rene glowered back with all the loathing he could muster—no small amount that. “Somehow I've grown accostomed to dealing with all sorts of noxious and toxic waste.” He spat. His father's eyes narrowed.
“Watch your tone with me.” He hissed. “I checked up on the Zuna family...a family of boorish poison-type fighters?! Have you no sense at all?”
“Don't you mean bigotry?!” Rene snapped. “And I don't, thankfully!”
“Clearly.” Robert drawled, his voice stern. “You will break off whatever it is you have with that...Nicole.” He spat out the last word as if it were more offensive than the countless perjoratives he had considered and dismissed. “Immediately.”
Rene's eyes widened. “Never! I will do NO such thing!”
“I wasn't asking a question.” Robert said severly.
“You still have my answer, regardless.” Rene glowered, leaning over the table at his father. “And THAT'S final.”
“No....it isn't.” His father said dangerously. “...You know I've often thought about going back to my family's old home in Johto. I think it's time I acted on that impulse.”
“Don't let the door hit you on the way out.” Rene fleered.
Robert slammed the table with his hand. “Oh no....you're coming too. Pack your things. We're moving.”
“...WHAT?!” Rene gasped. “You can't do that!” Robert grinned nastily.
“Oh but I can.” He practically purred. “I can enroll you into some of the finest schools in Johto, the ones my family have attended for ages. For too long I've let you have a practically free reign.” Rene sputtered at the gaul of that absolute LIE as his father continued. “We'll be leaving before summer ends.”
“B-but--!” Rene stammered. Faith's family was coming in just a few weeks! He hadn't even told his father about finding out Faith was related to them! What was he going to do?

At this point, I can only hope that his mother's family, if they are Faith's as well, are more influential than Vulpes is. Otherwise, even if Rene were to run off, his father could make his life a living nightmare. He could make it so Rene couldn't even set foot on the street without being arrested and being forced into what he has planned. He would have to essentially live like Romano to hope to escape. This is very bad.
