Hello.
I'd like to talk about 'happy accidents' for a moment. I was reading an art book which quoted that expression. It was talking about applying paint to paper, where if something sporadic happens with the paint, you should let it be and work with it, rather than work against it. For this piece, I applied that very approach. I put paint on paper, let it work its own way on the page and saw what came out of it.
That quote reminded me of back in 2012 when I saw this exquisitely drawn, traditionally drawn, piece. I commented and the artist commented back. I watched him and saw how astonishing an artist he is. Time and time again, with every piece he drew and submitted, it blew my mind. After a while of chatting to him through comments and such, we finally got to know each other a little better and I dare say that we're good friends now.
What's scary is that if I hadn't commented on that piece, back in 2012, then perhaps he and I wouldn't be friends. If I hadn't stopped, saw that piece and realised that I'd found one of my new favourite artists, would he and I even know each other?
Thus, 'happy accident;' I didn't know that we were going to form a good friendship because of my first comment, but I'll say this with regard to both this piece and our friendship: sometimes, just a small input can lead to amazing results. For this piece, I think I've made not the best piece in the world, but something that speaks for traditional in a way and it started with a slightly messy wash of paint. For my friendship with
EnigmaHyena, although we don't talk much, he and I are good friends and it started with me commenting on his artwork.
It's his birthday today, so please, if you have a spare moment, wish him a wonderful birthday. A strong friend and an extraordinary talent.
Happy birthday you...ruddy derpy yeen.

Oh wow Tene, where do I even start on this? The positioning, the splattery grungy painting (FYI a style I'm a sucker for), the 3D Kanji and how Ryuu is coiled around it, the attention to his details...aaaaa it's all so attention grabbing! Also the description is really touching, and very truthful - I'm so lucky I even finished that Suicune pic (especially since I did it with a mouse haha. Talk about persistence!) otherwise I doubt we would've met. And the traditional art is definitely something that has helped us bond. Hey, the fact we don't talk often but still get on so well is testament to how strong our friendship is :D
Thank you so much for this buddy, I can sense the amount of time and effort that has gone into this. I didn't get much for my birthday and no one is even really aware that it's even happening but then again that's because I don't tell anyone or ask for stuff. BUT despite that this has been a special birthday and it's because of this picture...I can't even describe it, it's just special and it means so much to me.
I'm also glad I nagged you to colour this when you were insisting on leaving it a sketch and were worrying colour would ruin it because it's tirned out absolutely fantastic. The fact it's my favourite character of mine just makes it that much better and hold it very close to my heart <3
Thanks again so much buddy, this has really cheered me up in this dark emotional time - I showed my Dad at the hospice and he really likes it too and says you're very talented...which is true!
Here's to many more years of our friendship and many more years of us showing the world the power of traditional art! Take that digital!
Big yeen hugs for Tene <3<3<3

That's the sign of a really good friendship, that we can still be friends even though we aren't in contact all the time. <3 I do have to say that the insane amount of skill and time and effort you put into your artwork inspired me to go even further with this. You showed in all your traditional work how vibrant and alive traditional is and I wanted to live up to that!
Heh, I didn't even know Ryuu was your favourite character! Funny that, since, alongside Gebbu, he's my favourite character of yours. c:
I'm glad it helped you out. I know how tough your life is at the moment and I'm more than eager to help you out however I possibly can.
Best wishes to you and your Dad, too! Could you thank him on my behalf? c:
Yep, I'm so, so glad that we're friends. We get on so well and it puts a smile on my face every time I remind myself that I can be friends with someone as unique, as charming and as skillful as you. <3
