I had the great fortune to go visit a local man who, out of a retired man's boredom, built and maintains an extensive hummingbird sanctuary and has monitored it for years, to the point where he can point out a specific tree branch where a hummingbird will make a nest months in advance. He showed myself and my class around as we caught, banded, and monitored a great plethora of species and varieties.
I grew up with a flower garden in the backyard designed for hummingbirds, so they were always a welcome and wonderful sight throughout my life. It was a surreal and pretty experience to see them...behaving like birds, to be honest.
This is me trying to get a photo of the nest, with its two chicks inside, with my big dumb camera through the man's Zeiss scope. It didn't work well, but this looks pretty. No digital vignetting done.
