Bilateral symmetry, though it makes things visually interesting, I think is overrated. It's why I don't use it much. Sure, bilateral symmetry makes creating a cool image easier, but in my opinion, the resulting images are not as dynamic or interesting as a good asymmetrical fractal images. That's just my opinion though.

True, it is a challenge to make a good asymmetrical fractal. Out of a batch of 100 random, I usually only come up with about 5 or 6 that I really like after adjusting.
