Saw the movie recently and yep... you're right. That said, I think the crapness of the Jett Records stuff was intentional - poor little chipmunks torn from their cosy homestead and forced into the cold, emotionless big time. Or something.

Yeah, but my problem is there's not enough good music in the film. I think it's too rushed, what with being totally geared towards children and all and who cares about the original fans of the Chipmunks.

Biggest problem with the movie - no Chipettes.

I've heard rumours that the sequel will fix that.

HAHAHAHAHA!!! Oh, definitely yes. That film was very much a mixed bag. The chipmunks themselves were cute and surprisingly in-character, and the acapella songs were indeed very well done. Everything else though was the most painfully generic kids' movie BS imaginable. I like how every nanosecond of David Cross' performance oozes "I hate being in this fucking movie".

Yeah, exactly!

David Cross has publicly said that in some of his other TV and film appearances, he'll intentionally do a shitty job just to see if they'll notice. I admire the amazing contempt for mainstream entertainment that implies.

Oh, I have both his standup albums and anything I've been able to download. I love anyone who does comedy that makes you seriously wonder why he's not currently in Guantanamo Bay.

Although of course how many kids' movies feature a band who spend the first half of the movie naked, then the next quarter wearing shirts only, and then their climactic act is to strip naked onstage?

I also like how when Dave thinks Ian is getting away with the chipmunks, the movie threatens to have a chase scene, but then doesn't. Ha!

Also, when Alvin says, "Ho-lee nuts! Dave said the word 'family'!", did you get the impression the writers wanted to have him say "Dave said the F-word", but weren't allowed to?

YES; I absolutely loved when they whipped their little outfits off! :D
