AC 2014 Sketch - Every Hoof You Take
A pic for
coreyfox and probably my favorite piece from the show. Nobody ever asks me to draw My Little Pony art, and despite the fact that I like the show I've only seen about 3 episodes and haven't gotten bit by the bug to draw the characters in the same way that so many other people have. Having said that however there's a real appeal to the way the characters are drawn and I definitely enjoyed this a lot, particularly because of the scenario that's depicted which combines these four genuine (ie: not fan-made) characters into a recreation of the Police's music video "Every Breath You Take". According to the description I was given, in Equestria these folks represent the "Royal Guardsponies" and they're performing the hit "Every Hoof You Take". My challenge was to make this feel like a scene direct from the video so special bonus points to you folks out there who were able to guess at what this illustration was even before I typed all that out.

It's "guardsponies." There's already a band in the real world called "The Royal Guardsmen." They sang 2 songs: "Snoopy vs. the Red Baron," and it's sequel "Snoopy's Christmas." (Then again, it was an acceptable case of forgetfulness as you drew this weeks ago, and it came out great otherwise. Thank you. )
Everytime someone asks me to draw their character I usually try to follow the reference art style they provide to some extent, particularly if I like the appearance, and when it comes to cartoon characters I love trying to recreate the styles. MLP is lots of fun to look at but it's different enough from my own choice of design that I don't do it on my own just for the fun of it, but I'll certainly give it a go if I'm asked to! :D
Well, hopefully now that you know of the reference it makes it that much more entertaining.
And suspiciously... maybe! These guys seem quite adept at standing on their hind legs and using their forelegs as arms, so they may be *just a touch* different than your standard ponies. :D
Told ya you'd get a kick out of it!
