Gasteracantha cancriformis
Common name is the Spinybacked Orbweaver. They're pretty common around here, and very distinctive looking spiders.
I think they're rather pretty.

It kinda looks like he/she is carrying a pastry on their back
I must admit though, I like many in my family am usually deathly afraid of spiders, but this one looks really cute and innocent. I might be able to look at it without hyperventilating if I was close to it in real life.

It's just a little thing. :P But, I'd hold your hand if you wanted.
This lady is much scarier: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/666154/

I actually screamed when I clicked it *clings to your hand*
I'm normally fine if I can watch them from a distance, but I once was laying down and when I sat up and tried fixing my hair I pulled back a spider that fit in the palm of my hand..... I swear the people on the other side of town heard the shrieking.

The photo portrays the creature at Actual Size! My gawd! get it away from the children!
Thats a keen pic, of neat spider. we get all manner of spiders, like the tan and brown mutant Black Widows (with Yellow hourglasses) and a buncha creepies like Solpugids, and every flavor of Scorpion.
I dig our various types of spiders, though. I like to play with the jumping spiders, the ones a little smaller than a dime, they seem so intelligent, and they seem to know when you are just inspecting them and are not a threat.
Arizona is lousey with keen spiders, and then we have the Brown Recluse, which I do not hesitate to kill when I find them inside.

The tan and brown widows might be Latrodectus geometricus or some immature stage of another widow species.
I don't think I'd kill brown recluse spiders, but then again I don't like to kill any spiders. The brown recluse doesn't live in my area (although many are convinced they do).
I don't believe they live in Arizona either, but other species of the Loxoceles genus do, so you may be seeing them (they're very hard to tell apart without examining their genitals).

According to the Entomology department at the U of A we have a large population of Brown Recluse all over southern Arizona.
I see warnings about them on Teevee every summer, and have been on a few trips to the bug zoo to see locally caught specimens with the professors. I will not examine their genitals, I promise.
we get widows all over the place, too.
