It was the light that shines saying a tape was inserted. I simply pressed eject to put a different tape in and she went all apeshit about how I'd screwed something up because one of the settings was changed and I had to sit there as she went through the manual just to find that light and I ended up having to confirm it was just going off because there was no longer a tape loaded in.
