My dear Alcide

I learned by our friend Gabriel P. and by your brother Florentin you were injured. I take the advantage of a free moment today, I take the advantage to remember at your good memory et for wish you a speedy recovery. Could you excuse me if I haven't wrote to you before but I didn't know your adress. We are in the New Alsace since the 21st December and we have receive the baptism of fire for Christmas. We are currently cantoned at Aspach, the Haut between [...], our territory, and Cernay, at the germans. We take the outposts 24 hours on 48. It's quite hard. Union of prayers and good bye if that please to [...].

J'ai appris par notre ami Gabriel P. et par votre frère Florentin que vous aviez été blessé. Profitant d'un moment libre aujourd'hui, j'en profite pour me rappeler à votre bon souvenir et pour vous souhaiter un prompt rétablissement. Veuillez m'excuser si je ne vous ai pas écrit plus tôt mais j'ignorais complètement votre adresse. Nous sommes en Nouvelle Alsace depuis le 21 décembre et nous avons reçus le baptême du feu le jour de Noël. Nous sommes actuellement cantonnés à Aspach, le Haut entre [...], à nous, et Cernay, aux Allemands. Nous prenons des avants-postes 24 heures sur 48. C'est un peu dur.
