The fog crept in late at night, covering the city of Neolythia the perfect night for criminals to come out using, the fog as cover for their crimes. The latest in crime waves, was in the city’s western districts, with cars being broken into and having parts stolen that the owners have left in them. The gang of five worked away, breaking into cars, and silencing the alarms as quick as they can. A sixth member sat in a getaway van, keeping his attention on a police scanner.
“We should hurry, this fog can’t last all night” a human male said as he cracked the door of a car open with a crowbar. “We got about an hour or two before the fog starts to clear, so shut up and keep working” a fox replied as he shifted through the contents in another car, throwing away the junk and keeping the valuables. “Sides, if a cop car comes, I can just distract them before we get away” a vixen said with a smile and a wiggle of her hips. “Well you do know how to use your natural charms” a wolf said with a grin as he pulled a radio out of a car.
The vixen sighed a little, before throwing a mobile phone at the wolf’s head. “Dex, if I told you once, I told you a thousand times. Stop trying to get into my pants, it will not happen” the vixen said before going back to work. The wolf, Dex, let out a yelp in surprise before calling out “Oh, but no harm in trying.” He grinned as he went back to work.
The other human with them though was a bit more worried. “Guys, we should hurry I think” he said as he gathered stuff from a car and puts them in the van. “As I said, we got an hour or two of this fog” the fox replied. “It’s not really the police I am worried about, it’s that Whitescar” the human said with a slight shudder. “You mean that costumed woman?” the vixen asked as she paused a bit. The human nod as he looked around. “Oh don’t be such a coward; she is just someone who thinks putting on a costume makes them a hero. Sides, she was spotted at least once at that bank robbery” Dex said as he pulled the radio out of the car and put it in the van. “I was there that day, I saw her and that other guy, Void Master fight” the human replied. “Well, get working” the vixen replied as they continued.
The van driver continued to listen to the scanner, not taking notice of a noise that was getting closer. He looked up when he thought he heard a voice, but saw a blue energy race towards him. He was about to shout, but the energy hit him, stunning him. “Hey Mike, we’re almost done, get the van ready” Dex said. When there was no response he walked up to the driver’s window. “Mike?” he asked as he peered in, where he saw the driver stunned. “What the…” he was interrupted as another stunning spell hit him.
The thud Dex made as he hit the van caused the other thieves to look up. “What was that?” the vixen asked. “I have no idea, go check it out” the fox said looking at the vixen. “Why should I? You go check” she said back. “How about you all stop what you doing” a voice said from atop the van. They looked up to see Whitescar standing there, her hand covered in a blue aura. “I told you we should of hurried up” the human male said as he looked at the superheroine.
The crooks watched, as Whitescar sent another stunning spell hitting the human male. He fell to the ground as the last two looked at her. “Why should we be afraid of you? There is just one of you and two of us. You only got the others by the element of surprise” the fox said as he pulled out a gun. “Sides, I don’t think your good enough to block a bullet” he continued, before he fired the gun.
Whitescar didn’t pause as she jumped off and behind the van. The bullet just missing her blue ponytail as she landed in a crunching position. “I thought you said no guns” the vixen said as she turned on the fox. “You guys yeah, but for me I took it just in case” the male said back. “You idiot, you were just going to leave us, weren’t you?” the vixen said, pushing the male back a bit. “Hey, I am no idiot” he said back. Whitescar crept a bit as she got to the other side of the van. Muttering a spell, she sent two stunning ones to the crooks, bringing them down.
The unicorn/fox paused as she listened. Her ears twitching as she tried to hear if there were any others in the fog. She sniffed the air, trying to pick up a scent besides herself, the crooks she caught and the fog. She nodded as she stood up and looked around after she was sure that no one else was in the fog. She turned to the computer device strapped to her left forearm. She pressed a button, knowing that it would send out a signal that the police would pick up on. She didn’t know how the device fully worked, only that it was on her arm when she first woke up.
She turned to the crooks, and started to walk around them and the van, making sure they didn’t get up. She nodded a little bit as she thought, ‘Not bad for a second time as a superhero.’ She jumped up onto the van as she stood there, and looked around. The night breeze making her cape flutter a bit behind her. Little more than twenty minutes passed, as sirens were heard. Whitescar stood up and looked at one direction as a cop car came through the clearing fog. She watched as the car got closer.
Jake Harris sighed as he got closer to the source the strange signal was picked up on the police radios. He was one of the few cars that was close enough, and so he along with the others, were dispatched to have a look. He slowed the car down as he looked at what looked like a van still running with figures lying against it. Drawing his gun as he got out and walked closer to it, keeping his guard up.
Whitescar saw the officer and walked in front of the van. The officer lowered his weapon when he saw the same costumed woman that fought off the Void Master at the bank. “You are really taking this superhero gimmick seriously aren’t you?” he asked as he kept his eyes on Whitescar. She watched him with blue eyes as she nodded. “Only second night out” she said, knowing that he was an officer that was there that day. “You should let the police handle this stuff” Harris said as Whitescar nodded a bit. “I should, but I want to help this city. This is the only one I consider my home. While I know, that by all rights, you should arrest me. I will ask, would you?” Whitescar said as she stepped closer.
Jake paused a bit, not expecting that type of question, even from someone who was basically being a superhero. “No, at least not if you haven’t done anything against the law. While this could be seen as against the law, you been the talk of the town. My own kid has been asking questions about our first meeting” he said as he put his gun back in its holster. Whitescar chuckled a bit, “Yeah I heard the kids of the city seem to be a bit happy that a superhero looks over their city.”
A pause came between the two as Jake checked to see if the crooks were still ok. Nodding he turned and looked at her, “So why do this?” “Why not? I mean maybe this city does need a superhero, seeing as there is now a supervillain” she replied. The sound of more sirens pierced the night as Whitescar turned and looked at the noise. “I will give you a question to ask your fellow officers. Do they accept their city has a superhero helping? Don’t answer, now. Answer me if we meet a third time” she said, before turning and running into the fog. Jake stood there blinking a bit, before more cop cars turned up.
The unicorn/fox hybrid, jumped up a fire escape as she scaled a wall. She had put some distance between herself and the crime scene as she stopped and caught her breath. ‘Yeah, not bad for a second run’ she thought as she looked down at her costume. She started to chant the only other spell she knew as her costume and body were covered in an illusion spell. Her outfit, started to change into a running out fit, the computer device on her arm turned into a watch. The spell book on her belt, took on the illusion of an old fashion portable CD player.
Her fur started to get dull as it went from white to a light grey. Her hair became a lighter shade of blue as did her eyes. Her fox tail slowly turned into a horse’s as her horn disappeared, completing the illusion of a normal mare that was out for a late night run. Whitescar had disappeared as Aoife started her jog back to her home at the outskirt of the city.
