my personal project in realising a species I have had in my mind for some time. This is still a work in progress.
I need to find names (the species and their home planet), and fill out other information.
To clear up a few misconseptions, I wanted something unique and intresting as I was thinking this up.

Species: Chiazen.
Average life span: ~240 earth years

The Chiazen are an interesting race in many aspects. Their technology is very advanced, in some cases their machines have the ability to self evolve and even more interesting is that some of their technology incorporates synthetic organic components. They have advanced genetic manipulation technology, biomechanics and cybernetics which have been perfected over hundreds of years. As a species they are highly adaptive to new environments. They are a collective intelligence/group mind. They are a race of advanced hermaphrodites, split into male dominate and female dominate sexes, and further split into live birth and egg laying categories.

The Chiazen’s home planet YYYY has varying environments, the surface temperature can vary from ~320kelvin to ~430kelvin. The majority of the inhabited land is indistinguishable from the local enviroment. The Chiazen’s cities and homes are built incorporating the local fauna and landscape into the designs. It is not uncommon to see a residence that looks like local fauna, covered by local fauna or mimicking the local landscape. The only thing that can distinguish city from untouched nature is paved roads, and even those seem disguised.

As a species the Chiazen are remarkable. They can adapt to a new environment much faster than other species, normally within a few years compared to generations. Their genetic, techno-organic and cybernetic augmentations enable the people to assume numerous augmented forms and grant each individual the ability to manipulate energy fields, the altered forms the people take are life long, they can be added to but are generally not taken away. Each individual can project and manipulate energy fields similarly to psychic abilities, namely telekinesis. A small percentile of children, ~0.25% are born with natural psychic abilities, they are called anomalies, and these children are unique, treated with greater respect, given more advanced classes and are more powerful than their augmented counterparts.

As a people the Chiazen are interesting. Their love for nature and advanced technology can seem contradictory. Many take on a hybrid appearance of feral animals some native to their planet, some native to other worlds. Despite having a group mind in which information is freely shared, each individual has a remarkably strong sense of self and a strong will. Their group mind is also the reason why they have a technological advantage as more individuals have the ability to contribute their ideas on a project. Surprisingly money to this people has less of a value when compared to other species.

The people are generally non-combative, but that does not mean that they all are weak and pacifists. Due to their augmentations and their extensive use of the abilities the augmentations grant each individual can be a dangerous opponent. As a people they have difficulties understanding reasons behind conflicts and war. There are some individuals who specialize in combat related fields, these individuals are rare.

As a race of hermaphrodites there are many misconceptions about them, the foremost being that they can switch genders at will. At a young age (~4years old) children start to identify as a male or female. Their genders do not physically set until they reach the early age of puberty (~9years old). Though it is possible for a male to become female, the only time it occurs is when survival of the species is at stake and therefore rare. Strong males and strong females rarely (normally never) shift from their respective genders. An individual who is a male, their female reproductive organs are inhibited by the chemicals produced by their male reproductive organs, and vice versa.

The variation of egg laying and live birth is shrouded in mystery. It is theorized that it was a byproduct of early genetic augmentations. The method in which this trait is inherited is through the mother, if the mother reproduces via egg-laying or live-birth then the child will reproduce via the same method of reproduction.

The species is a mammalian species. Females generally have a narrower waist, a set of mammalian glands on their chest, softer facial features, and less muscle mass. Males generally have more broad shoulders, more muscle mass, are generally more territorial. Male and female skeletal structures are very similar.

As a child reaches their eight birthday the child is into the early stages of being brought into the group mind and by the age of nine the child is fully integrated into the collective intelligence. It is a slow process but it ensures that the procedure is 100% effective and very safe for the individual. At this time the basic techno-organic augmentations are integrated into the individual when necessary or desired, the lists of augmentations include field manipulation systems, group mind relay, internal power systems, genetic augmentations, etc. Interestingly enough the Chiazen have developed an energy field and technology that enables each individual the ability to survive in a hard vacuum for a limited amount of time without the use of a space suit. The minimum time the individual can stay in such harsh environment is one hour but the average is around three hours.

Their group mind ability is a very interesting trait. It enables each individual to transmit information and communicate with their technology. The latter can be observed when pilots fly their craft without the use of manual controls, the former is observed when an outside individual is introduced to the Chiazen, resulting in all Chiazen being introduced to said individual.

For a Chiazen the age of nine is a big year because that is when each individual is given the privilege to physically express their individuality through augmentations if they so choose.
