One should never, ever boil. It's the quickest way to absolutely ruin bone. It cooks the grease into the bone and makes the bone brittle. There is no reversing it. And with time, the bone will just crumble away to nothing. It makes it very fragile.
There are two methods we use. One, we beetle clean. Beetle cleaning means to remove as much flesh manually possible, and let dermestid beetles (flesh eating beetles) eat the dried flesh that remains. No, they won't eat your flesh. They only eat dead things. The other method, maceration. Maceration is when you submerge the skull in a bucket of water and keep it a consistant temp using an aquarium heater (or a larger heater if it's a large specimen) The smell is horrid, but it does a very good job as bacteria that occurs in the water eats the flesh.
