As I mentioned in the previous comics, in real life I wound up with a big zero for this project after being thrown under the bus by my group. Peter here is getting an opportunity to circumvent Tracy's attack.
And yet, if Tracy had not pulled this stunt, he would have been saddled with the same grade she got. That's what you'd call a cruel irony.
Many thanks to the following folks who all offered up their characters for one-shot guest cameos on this page:

I *DID*. The comment says that the teacher questioned the stories that Peter documented. Remember the stack that Peter brought? ALL DOCUMENTED, he said? If she had included the documentation, would the teacher have claimed they were made up?
That's why I say she included the childhood stories and omitted the documentation.

Here's the thing though; all those books he "read" and cited? He made up the cites, or at least that was heavily implied. All his info he got from Seth, so any citations would have been falsified anyway as none of the books would have actually collaborated any of his documentation. She very well could have included the documentation, as an anal retentive grade student would, but her mistake was that she didn't she didn't cross reference his work and simply stole it and used it, and now karma is biting her in the rear.
Oddly enough, one of my online classes, the grade was entirely on "how well we worked together as a group". The professor gave us a vague project and several weeks to do it, but we couldn't ever figure out what the professor wanted us to do (despite asking him many times). In the end, we showed him something we all came up with and everyone got an A because he was happy with how well we all came up with something and didn't even care that our presentation was quite amateurish. That's why I really like the classes I'm in now as opposed to before when it was all competitive. Adults take school WAY more seriously than 22 and below year olds (who are ultra competitive for no reason) and that's all the professors really want.
It's not about competition or getting the highest grade, just about getting the work done and solving the problem.

Well if you remember, Seth specifically said that the books all got the details WRONG on the general's childhood. So Peter would have gotten such stories from Seth directly, since he was there to witness it. Then, upon turning in the bibliography with his research to Tracy, Peter deliberately only says he wrote down "every book" that he read. No mention of any other sources, since how could he explain getting details from an invisible duck?
Chalk it up to Peter assuming that a teacher wouldn't actually go through and check every source listed in a kid's report -- and apparently Tracy not bothering to do so, either.

There is actually a part of the story that in retrospect I wish I hadn't cut out. I write the script for each story to fit within 10 pages (usually how long I try to keep story arcs to keep things moving). My first draft of this one initially had a moment where Seth warned Peter against using the information since it wasn't in any history books, but Peter decides to use it anyway since it's "so much more interesting" than the usual boring details. When I worked out the page layouts, I wound up cutting that part out since I couldn't fit it within the first page of Peter doing the research, but it wasn't enough to warrant its own page... so, there you go.
When I do this story in the animated series I will definitely include that bit. You're right, without it it just seems like Seth purposefully gave Peter that info without regard for what impact it would have on his final grade.

Well, Seth has tested Peter in such a matter before, back a ways with listening to those worms about crashing the sleepover, and he failed that test. Doing the report right was another test that Peter effectively failed (Boy has a lot to learn, good kid that he is), but he dodged a bullet because of another's connivance.
RE: the above script edit, the scene would have taken place between this page and this page.
Perhaps for the book version a bonus mini page with this deleted scene in it between the two corresponding pages or perhaps one after the fact, Peter at his locker grumbling to Seth about having to do all that work again, asking Seth if he's got any stories on his new subject. Seth flat out rejecting, telling Peter he warned him before and he got lucky this time. Peter, being clueless asks what Seth means (about being lucky, showing Guardians are aware of a lot more than they let on) only to be interrupted by some commotion in the halls (I remember there always being commotions happening in high school. This one probably Tracey freaking out, but not mentioned directly.)
Eh, just something that popped into my head after reading the strips and the comments. Had to share, even if it never goes beyond this. ^^
