Dramatis Personae

Welcome to Actura, a world with no intelligent life whatsoever until the mysterious Catalyst of two thousand years ago, a near-utopian society, and a lot of darker secrets. Ruled by a democratic global system termed simply "The Authority" and populated by several thousand different species of Sentient, Actura's universal peace and prosperity has been constant for eight hundred years.

But those days are drawing to a close.

The global community is fracturing. The Authority appears corrupted in some new way every day - suppressing scientific discoveries, rescinding its ban on executions, using increasingly extreme methods of pacification against rebel states. The system is no longer trusted.

And there is more. Sightings of monstrous, mythical creatures, and of infamous people long dead, abound. The mysterious spontaneous amnesia suffered at random by people everywhere is pointed to as signs of mind-control. And there are vanishings. People disappear. People die in horrible ways - and no longer is it just people, but populations. A dreadful night is closing in, as forces set ancient wheels into motion. Some are beyond mortal motivations. Others are beyond mortal comprehension.

Into this world come the heroes and villains of this tragedy, madmen and their victims, innocents and their protectors, killers and fellow killers. By their hands and cruel claws will a universe begin to burn.

From left to right

Damian (Voidtouched Mathraxian gryphon, 819, 13'1"): Damian is one of the oldest Voidtouched in the world, and quite possibly the most powerful. Damian lives a solitary existence, defined solely by his total obsession with single, specific individuals, who he will stalk for years before revealing, torturing, and swallowing. His skill at telepathy, and particularly his mastery of fear, is without equal - although his colossal frame and burning intellect may no doubt help.

Alex Williams (Arctic fox, 23, 5'8") Alex is Damian's current victim. Or rather, his new only victim. The unfortunate vulpine inspires such burning desire in his vast avian torturer that Alex has been agonisingly killed six times over the past two years, and knows that his life will hold nothing more than more painful deaths until his soul finally shatters beyond repair. But despite his psychological trauma, his absolute terror, and all the pain he carries from knowing his fate and being unable to speak a word of it, Alex can never give up on hope of a better world - which just makes him more adorable.

Finnley Sharpe (Voidtouched Grey wolf, 38, 6'4") Finn is an Acturan native, which is not common for the Voidtouched. Not that Actura wants him. Under the media nickname of "Mr Knives" he was until recently one of the most prolific serial killers in history, named for his habit of expertly torturing his playthings before their deaths - never mutilating, just watching them feel the pain. Finally, Finn was caught - only with the aid of another psychopath - and ostensibly executed, the first death sentence of the Authority in history. In reality, he was sent through a hole in the universe, and agonisingly accepted as one of its own. Finn is a young creature of the Void, but his insane personality has taken to it with lethal enthusiasm.

Brutus Redstone (Voidtouched rat, 35, 5'7") Brutus is a genius physicist with a murderous streak a mile wide, believing in the value of progress over the value of life. After thirteen years incarcerated as a result of his "experiments" with the hole in the universe he discovered, he was released on condition that he headed a task force to find the elusive Mr Knives. In return, Knives would serve as a proper test subject, sent into the void beyond. Brutus achieved this, catching the wolf in the act, but was not expecting Finn to emerge with powers beyond all scientific understanding. Near dead, he willingly put himself through the same horrendous process as Finn, and has survived on his desire to finally end his feud with the wolf and succeed in his studies.

Oscar Shaw (Peregrine Falcon, 41, 5'11")Oscar served a long and distinguished career in the Authoritorian pacifying military. Since his honourable discharge after injury in the line of fire, he has served as bodyguard, assisstant and inseperable friend to the daughter and heir of the owner of massive medicinal corporation Asclepion. Oscar's quiet demeanour hides a skill and determination above and beyond the norm, and also a growing trauma. Like his charge, he is becoming aware that their very lives are being tampered with. Somehow, he knows for certain, he has died recently, and he hasnot remembered the horrific situation, nor how they have survived.

Jessica Gaunt (Mouse, 19, 5'6"). Jess was brought up in luxury, but despised it all. A brilliant scholar with a fascination for history, her personality clashes with her restrictive father have left her an increasingly frustrated soul in a world where her passionate beliefs are not apparent. The only person she feels able to trust is her bodyguard Oscar - everyone else might be part of the conspiracy surrounding this world. Jess has never been one to let a mystery lie hidden. She is tracing traces everywhere she can, to try and uncover a proper truth. But this quest may lead her to monsters too dangerous for her imaginings.

Esmerelda ████ (████ zebra, ██, 6'0) Esmerelda is ███ █████ █ ███, the result of ██████ ██████. She ████ ██████ ██ ████ ██, while her ██████ █ ████████████ ██ ████ █████ ██ ██. She displays ████ ██████ █ ██████ ██ ███ ███ █ ██████ ███, ██████ ██ ███ ███ ██████. Esme, when she can ██ ████ █ ██████ ██ █████, is possibly the most brilliant ██ █████ ████ █ █████ on the planet.

Artemis ████ (███-████ zebra, ██, 6'0) Artemis' ████ is ██ ██████ ████ █ ██████ ██, and █████ █████████ █ ██████ ██ ███. Unable to ██████ ████████ ██ ██████ ████ ████, she instead tries ████ █ ████████ █ ██████ ████, knowing that ██████ █████ ███ ████████████. Her genius for ██████████ ██ ██████ is still ████████ ██ ████████, despite ████ ██████ ██████████ █ ████. The ███ █████ ████ ███ is her eyes, which ████ █ █████
