My first Flash game. Give it a spin and tell me what you think. Honest critique and/or feedback appreciated. Instructions included!
I haven't learned how to put loader screens yet, so there will be a blank screen for a few seconds.
EDIT: End of game bug fixed (which happened if you lost your last ship to your superbomb, then got an extra life immediately after. It left your ship playing on the title screen). Kudos to
crome and
chocolatekitsune for pointing it out.
Also: Alien laughing taunts, and electronic "heartbeat" added.

*laughs* Wow, now this takes me back in years.
I only gave it a quick once-over right now, but the game play seemed very smooth and the handling of the ship and weapons very easy to use. Again, I didn't play all that long so I can't say how the handling will be if the screen starts to get really busy, but I don't have any complaints.

I thought the lettering looked fine. The font was clear for both the words and numbers.
As for the speed, it was all working perfectly so far at the high quality. I'm sure I won't survive long enough to see 50 asteroids on the screen at one time, so I'm not sure I'll ever have to worry about seeing what happens after that. ;)

in fact you need to add some suprise at the end, like a huge ufo that shoots in all dirrections or uses 3 of those bombs... or maybe after you get to the last level you have to start over then fight a BIGGER boss at the end before getting a blue screen with a bad english, something like "You is Congratulation"
IMO, the game itself is better than the original Asteroids. My only major beef with it is the explosion radius of the super bomb takes up 75% of the screen. I would say to limit the amount of bullets able to be fired, but since everything takes multiple hits to destroy, it balances out. Overall, good work.
I'll have to reserve judgment until later. It is different. You have shields and super bombs, and you don't have Hyperspace. The large saucer chases you and fires at you instead of just cruising by, firing in random directions like in classic Asteroids. This takes some getting used to.
Yeh, Figured out how exactlly i done it.
The bomb that killed me also tiped my score over enough to gain an exra life.
Im assuming the game detected my lifes were at 0 - So it threw up the fail message, went to the title screen, Then It respawend my ship after realising i had another shot.
First time I done it both my ships an other asteroids were on the screen, - This time it was just my ship - :).
Want screens?

I really dig the smoothness of this retro game. Reminds me of the arcade.
I loved this game at 1st, but it makes R-Type seem easy.
The big saucer I encountered early on (can't get very far because of them) is way too accurate considering it lingers so close to the player. Can't reliably dodge it's numerous shots AND shoot at it, considering how many hits it takes to kill.
Also, the flying comet or whatever it is moves too fast. Can't realistically avoid it with the existing interface unless you happen to be aiming the right direction when it shows up.
With these existing problems, I think reply value is somewhat hindered.
That's my "Honest critique" thus far.
BTW, this would be pretty cool as a smartphone game, above issues resolved, that is

The saucers were meant to be tough, but in hindsight I should have shaved off the amount of hitpoints they have.
One of the tricks with the guided missiles is to get out of the way moments before they reach you as they cannot turn as fast as you. Get them to begin circling you while you do the same, and you can eventually shoot them down.
