A story I originally submitting for
Furry_N_Fuzzy's contest, but as they seem to have disbanded I'll submit this here for your reading pleasure. ^^
It's not a transformation or hypnosis story, but I really love the small plot of this story, and I hope you do too. =D
“Why are you here right now, Neal?” Jim asked as he turned to face the fox who was sheepishly playing with his tail.
“Jim, I wanted to see you,” Neal said softly as the ferret walked towards the bed.
Jim held up the annoyed façade for a moment before he sighed and sat down by the fox. The pair was silent for a moment before Jim softly smiled at Neal. “What’s the matter, hun? Is it your dad again?”
Neal glanced nervously at his boyfriend before nodding softly. “He’s drunk again, and until it subsides I can’t go home or he might…”
Jim nodded and pulled his boyfriend into a hug. “It’ll be alright, I’m here for you.” The pair stayed in the embrace for a bit before Jim tugged away and clicked his tongue. “Well now that you’re here you know my mom won’t let you go until you’ve eaten, and since your Dad is drunk my Dad won’t let you leave so… looks like you’re staying in my room tonight.”
A grin split across the fox’s face. “Really?”
“As if you didn’t know,” Jim said with a laugh as he playfully patted Neal on the head. “Mom and Dad both love you, and being my boyfriend only improves things.”
Neal chuckled as he nodded. “Yeah, well it’s not my fault that I’m just so dang cute.”
“Keep telling yourself that, hun.” Jim said as he hugged his boyfriend again. The door opened up to reveal Jim’s mom.
“Is it his father again?” she asked Jim, and as he nodded she just smiled and winked at Neal. “Looks like you’re staying over here again, I’ll grab you a sleeping bag for the night and tell Trevor. He’ll want to know what’s happening.”
They both nodded, Trevor was Neal’s uncle who kept a tight leash on Neal’s dad who made sure that Neal was alright. While Neal knew that he could count on his uncle for support he usually went over to Jim’s house to spend time with his boyfriend. “Thanks Mom.”
“No problem honey, food will be ready in an hour,” she said with a smile before slipping out once more.
“Looks like you’re set for the night,” Jim said with a chuckle before Neal leaned over and kissed him.
“Thank you, Jim,” he said in earnest.
Jim’s eyes glimmered happily as he kissed Neal back. “It’s no problem, and with us being in college classes together we can wake up together so we don’t miss classes tomorrow.”
“Uch, classes,” Neal said before laughing and plopping onto Jim’s bed and winking at his boyfriend. “Come on, we have an hour before dinner.”
Sighing heavily with a hint of sarcasm Jim hopped onto the bed too. “You’re a bad influence on me…” he said as he wrapped his arms around Neal’s neck.
“I know, but you let me…” Neal giggled as they started kissing again.
Jim and Neal spent the night together, but before slipping off to sleep in each other’s arms Jim nudged against Neal. “Hey, Neal. Are you still awake?”
“Yeah…” the fox breathed, his eyes cracked open to look into his boyfriend’s.
“Have you heard about life’s flavors?” Jim asked.
“No, why?” Neal mumbled, he was close to falling asleep at any time.
“I heard from my grandpa that life has flavors, and the more intense an emotion is it gives the moment a flavor,” Jim explained, his eyes twinkling with happiness.
“Really? Well what do you think this moment tastes like?” Neal asked, waking up just enough to pay attention to his answer.
Jim licked his lips as if he could physically taste the moment. “Well… I think it tastes… sweet… and… like fox’s lips.”
Neal laughed and pushed his boyfriend playfully before they hugged. “Well I think you’re right… except for the fox lips part…”

“Where’s my boutonniere?!” Jim asked, he turned around in a circle desperately searching for the flower. It was the big day and he was messing up already, and they’d even practiced it three times the day prior to make sure that it would go down perfectly.
He felt a tap on his shoulder and he turned to find himself facing Neal, the fox didn’t say anything as he held up the boutonniere and pinned it to Neal’s jacket. “I knew you’d forget it, so I brought a spare just in case…” he said, Jim felt a blush spread under his fur and watched as the fox patted his jacket down.
“You look great,” Jim said, his eyes gleaming with joy as his fiancée patted down a top hat they had decided on for the ferret’s ensemble. The fox gave a pretend gasp of disgust as he looked at his fancy tuxedo.
“This old thing?! It looks terrible, that’s awful of you to say!” Jim just laughed as Neal pretended to pout before smiling and kissing the ferret on his cheek. “Thanks, honey.”
The pair quietly went around getting finished up for the wedding, Neal slipping the top hat onto Jim’s head and kissing him on the cheek before slipping out of the room. “If my mom knew that I came in here she’d skin me alive, so don’t tell okay?” he asked, winking mischievously as he walked back towards his room.
Neal’s mom had come for the wedding, but his father had made it very clear that he didn’t approve and he never would. For the pair though they really didn’t care, and neither did their families. Jim straightened up his hat and drew himself up before stepping out of the room, and even as he started towards the room where the marriage was going to happen he felt like his legs would drop out from beneath him at any moment from nervousness.
As Jim stepped into the hall he saw that Neal was already standing next to the preacher, and as the light from the church windows soaked in and soaked the fox in radiant light Jim had to pause for a moment to take the view in. Around him people smiled and tears were pouring out of eyes as he prepared for the wedding to the man that he loved, and as he walked down the rest of the aisle to stand next to his soulmate he had to read across for the fox’s hand. Without hesitation Neal reached out and grabbed on for reassurance, and with that the pair could practically taste the happiness in the air as the preacher started the ceremony.
As Jim and Neal locked eyes, Jim couldn’t help but mouth a question to his lover. “What do you think this moment tastes like?”
Neal glanced over at the preacher to see if he had noticed, but the old owl was too far invested in his book to really pay attention so he quickly licked his lips as if trying to get something out of his teeth then he mouthed back. “I think it tastes like…” he thought it over for a moment before smiling. “Love,” he mouthed, Jim smiled and gripped the fox’s hands tighter as the owl continued the ceremony until Jim kissed his husband.

Jim and Neal sat side by side on a park bench, their fur graying as they lived each of life’s precious moments together. They had adopted kids, and had loved them every day without fault. Fights, shared grief, family love, they shared every moment and each came with a different taste. The pair had watched their kids have kids, and were in turn called Grandpas. Jim had explained to each of his kids, and grandkids about the flavors of life.
As the old couple locked hands and stared at the sun with gentle smiles, Jim felt Neal nudge against him gently. “Hm?” he asked, looking over at his husband.
“What do you think this moment tastes like?” Neal asked, his eyes glimmering with the same love that they had held when Jim had first told him about life’s flavors.
Jim leaded back and smacked his lips as he tasted the air, and with the utmost clarity he knew what it tasted like. It was a flavor that came with time, and one that only the truest of life’s connoisseurs could appreciate. “Neal, my dearest love…” Jim started, earning a nudge of amusement from the old fox. He tasted the air once more, and nodded in approval as he knew exactly what this flavor was. “This moment tastes like the finest wine, one brought on by years of labor making sure that its flavors ripen into a delicate drink that sweetens the tastebuds and can be admired by everyone in the world. This moment… tastes like our life’s work made into the finest wine that’s been sought after by kings, and the very gods themselves. Neal… my love…” Jim said, meeting eyes with the fox he felt as young as he did when they laid in bed together that night his boyfriend was scared of his father. “This tastes like love, and for everything in the world there’s nothing sweeter, no sweetened grape or fancy chocolate that could prove me wrong.”
The fox shook his head and laughed softly before looking back into the ferret’s eyes. “You stole the words out of my mouth… actually, you had a lot more words than I would’ve said, but the sentiment is still there… Jim, I love you.”
Jim and Neal kissed one another again before looking out towards the sun once more and Neal closed his eyes as he bathed in the sun’s glow. “I love you too, Neal.”
