ACTUALLY "she's" a he but due to complex issues, Birdo ended up mainly being female in the west but then recently, they ended up using gender neutral pronoun.

But hey, whatever works! :V

Cause of how odd the whole concept of a transvestite male seems in a Nintendo game. Or at least back in the '80s and '90s. That and some manual mistake.

They actually just went with full-on retconning her into an actual female in both Japan and America for awhile. But then at some point, even they got tired of the ongoing arguments over this character and basically went "Fuck it, you wanna keep arguing about it, we'll give you nothing to argue about" and officially labelled her a creature of indeterminate gender.

Yeah, as stated in a previous comment: they just ended up using gender neutral pronouns for the character. Heh.

I think they should've stuck by what they decided. Besides, their decision to make her gender-indeterminate only raised twice as many arguments because now it's up the fuck in the air. :V

Maybe they'll make a Mushroom Kingdom Historia book and finally tell what Birdo's gender is. :B

Yeah, especially in the original SMB2/DDP games. Did one of the Mario soccer games had a bunch of Birdos in some team?

It did indeed, plus tons of Birdos in the audience. By now it's like trying to argue there's only one Yoshi.
