Speed or no, there is a quite a level of... layers. I wish I could see how you did the background. For someone who wants to learn how to draw, this pic is kind of a wet dream.

There were some layering techniques, but no actual layers were used, when I work quick like in this one I like to use a very large soft bursh as first, and work to a smaller/harder brush.

Honestly, the brush types I use are extremely basic, it's just a circle brush and I adjust the softness/hardness/size.
