the rocket he designed had numerous teething problems during it's development, with failing components, and guidance issues.

1981: First test launch, AIRSTRAP solid booster rockets fail to separate in launch, payload was successfully inserted into orbit.

1984: Launch of South Korean GLONASS communication satellite. First stage booster breaks up after separation. Debris killed six on ground. Satellite placed into geostationary orbit.

1986: AIRSTRAP Booster malfunction caused launch vehicle to veer off course, smashing into a small town, taking many lives.

Ray left the program after the 86 disaster, because of the stress that it brought along.

He returned to the program in 1993, after major design improvements were incorporated.

1993: Successful launch of payload en route to Mars.

1996: Successful launch of three satellites using one launch vehicle

1999: Final Launch of booster before being put in hiatus
