It was the most astonishing moment in Rene’s life. It had started about two weeks earlier at the Sunny Day Festival with a simple question:
“SO Faith, you got any summer plans?” Rene asked the albino vulpix as he took a breather from his dunking booth.
“Well... actually... I need to think about it... “She sighed, rubbing behind her head. “Penny's heading to Hoenn and Mrs Cartego asked me the other day if I'd be doing anything. She kind of wants a week alone with Mr Cartego for the two of them.” She shuffled. “I don't want to go back to the Temple so soon and I don't want to trouble the others...so I was thinking of just...training I guess, stay at the factory for the week, like before?
Rene blinked and smiled as an idea struck him. “Hey! Why not stay with me? I haven't had a friend over in, well, years!”
Then it was Faith's turn to blink and grin. “Sure!! That'd be fun!” Rene jumped up and squeed as he hugged Faith.
“I'm gonna have my first sleepover at my house since I was eight! We're gonna stay up late, watch movies, eat junk food, do our nails, have pillowfights...”
Faith giggled, holding up a finger waggingly. “I'm all game and fun for that, Rene, except one thing--”
“...What?”
“We monks have to keep a balanced diet in our training.” Faith said as she gave a persecuting poke at his belly. “No junk food.” She winked. “Let me in the kitchen, and I'll whip you up something tasty AND good for you!”
Rene grumbled. “Oh, all right. But no making fun of my appearance! I've actually been training hard you know!” Faith giggled, as she hobbled over.
“I won't make fun, as long as you don't make fun of me either.” Faith said as she threw him one last hug. He snorted.
“What could I possibly make fun of you? You're too frigging cute!” He hugged her back
She giggled, still holding on for a moment, but then, letting go, hopping a little to another wall to balance against, grinning to him. “I'll leave you to it, you have a line of customers waiting... just as long as you tie those shorts on tight next time, okay?”
Rene mumbled and blushed “Low blow....”
Two weeks later, as summer vacation got into swing, Rene was at home waiting for his guest to arrive.
Rene heard a knock at the door. “Coming!” He hurried down the stairs and runs to the door, flinging it open to reveal a certain albino vulpix and her baggage for the week. “You need help carrying that?”
And promptly, the Vulpix would receive a welcome strangling hug, a la Aliens, as a far-too-friendly Chimecho suddenly sprung on him. “Chime chime!”
Suddenly, Rene is attacked from above, as something wraps around his head, a bell chiming away happily as a giggling comes from above! “Chime chime!”
Rene immediately panicked and started waving his arms. “Getioff, getitoff!”
“Jingle-chan! Here, here, come here and stop flailing, Rene!” Faith ordered.
“Who and what's a jingle-chan?” He asked from underneath the bandages.
Faith took a second and slowly, unwraps the bandage-like wrapping from Rene's face, until he can see again, as smiling, she extracts the strange...thing...and holds it up for him by the top of its head...“Rene, meet Jingle-chan!
“But what is it?” He asked.
“Chime!” The feral Chimecho rang pleasantly, tinkling away with a smile, as its long tail lulled in the breeze.
“He's my new pet!” Faith explained with a giggle. Rene looked nonplussed.
“Ah. Okay.” He tentatively pet it. “Nice Jingle-chan, good boy..” It positively bubbled, a big smile and red cheeks as it was petted, readying itself, to suddenly leap at him once more, only held back by Faith.
“Chi!”
“ ...Excitable isn't he?” Rene deadpanned.
“He's a little...affectionate...” Faith giggled as she stood, laughing slightly nervously, as she held her meager looking little bag well...notably now, barely using her crutch as the cast still poked out from under her robes. “I'm fine... I can see you've already got your paws full there!”
Rene took a few minutes to pry Jingle-Chan off him. “My house is your house...please, come on in. Do you want anything to drink? A snack maybe?”
The girl laughed a little, shaking her head as she crutched in slowly, looking round with perked ears. “Thank you! I'm fine just now, but remember...” She turned back to him with raised brows. “I'm in charge of all the snacks and drink here while I stay, my part of doing the fair share around here, okay?”
Rene pouted. “Oh, all right, all right....” He mumbled. “Better not be nutri-grain bars....”
Faith actually came back to him, and lightly poked him on the nose, while now that Jingle-chan had been pried free, he now instead hung around Rene's neck like a loose scarf, just floating happily. “I'm going to show you that healthy eating doesn't have to be ALL boring...”
”If you say so. Want to have a look around though? Please, let me carry your bag—”
The girl grinned, as she looked down at the bag only perhaps big enough for one change of clothes and maybe a book or two, a humble little thing, seemingly the same style as her shrine robes, then back to him with her usual grin. “Well, I'd rather hold onto it myself, but where can we put it just now, before you give us the grand tour?”
“Just leave it...hmmm, let's bring it upstairs. You can sleep in one of the guest rooms, or share mine, whatever you're preference is.”
She giggled her tail bobbing slightly as she nodded. “Well... if we plan on having a good pillow fight or two, does your room have enough space to share?”
Rene beamed. “It does! Come on up and see!”
“Okay!” Her tails bobbed slightly, as she giggled, nodding, before suddenly, she leaned, forward into one of her accustomed bows. “And thanks again for having me over, Rene...”
Rene bows backed back, remembering some of the Japanese he learned from his mom. “Shigataga ga nai. It's my pleasure—really. Come on.” He started walking up the stairs, waving for Faith to follow. Suddenly, the girl grinned with a small pride, as she let loose a tiny whistle and instantly, the Chimecho let loose, flying through the air from Rene, and vanishing into Faith's robes. “Okay!” She looked to the stairs. And instead of her usual awkward hobble upstairs...without holding the banister, and crutch under arm, she just made her way up, a little slower than him, but almost just as well! Something had changed there!
Rene had blinked at where Jingle-Chan flew but prudently decided not to ask. “Right this way...” they headed upstairs and walked down a long hallway past several doors. “By the way, you looked really good walking up the stairs.”
She gave a grin as she stood there after following, and yanking up the edge of her skirts, unveiled her cast...a NEW one...one that only went up to her knee instead! “I went for a smaller model!”
“Nice!” Rene observed. “I’ll need to sign again.” He opened a door on his right. “Here we are! My sanctum sanctorum.” They walked into his room, which was large, airy and open spaced. There was the usual: bed, desk, computer, dresser, closet, a large window with a great view of the forest in back of the house, as well as a hamper...which Rene was foolish enough to leave open.
“You have first dibs then!” She declared, before entering and blinking suddenly. “Wow.” He certainly had plenty of room there! She tried to look all around and take it in at once...as instantly, a familiar Chimecho peeked out of the robes pocket he currently stayed in to look at the large window...and she looked to the open hamper instead.”
Rene coughed suddenly. “Um, nothing to see there! Don't you want to see the pull out bed instead? The bathroom down the hall? Anything?”
The girl let a wry smirk slowly raise as she popped her bag down, abandoning it for the moment. “Rene Vulpes...I think I've seen you in every pair of panties possible...what else could you have in here you wouldn't want me to see?” She asked as she went in for the peek. A top the hamper was a handful of granny-panties and even a thong or two! Faith blinked. “...Oh, wow...”
He blushed and said nothing. Faith slowly extracted a pair of granny panties in one paw, and the thong in the other, looking between them, before dropping the thong, and then holding the bloomers to him with a grin. “...After all the knocks about me wearing these?”
“....They're not big and puffy like yours!” Rene feebly defended.
The girl at least now not relying on her crutch, could afford both paws to stretch the waistband out, drawing attention to their full size, as she giggled. “How did you find them?”
Rene continued to blush and scratched floor with the foot. “....online shopping...” They were so big you could probably have fit them over his head without trouble. Faith hobbled over, half-looking ready to try it herself, but just handed him them with a giggle.
“No, I meant how did you find them for wearing?” Rene continued to blush and squirm in lieu of an answer. Faith shook her head. “From one bloomer-girl to another, I think I can keep it secret if you liked wearing them?” Rene nodded weakly.
“They're comfy....”
She giggled, and drew him into a hug. “Was that too hard?”
“Mortifyingly so, yes.”
Faith rolled eyes, and let go there, smiling back to him as she hobbled over to the large window, looking to sit on the ledge and look at the view. “You KNOW, I think we may need to get you a skirt sometime too!” It wasn't a joke the girl certainly seemed serious enough about it, as she smiled to him, peeking out for the view!
“...You think so?” Rene asked. The girl smiled back to him, paws folded on her lap.
“Well... I think you'd look very pretty in one, if only now and again?” Rene looked down at himself and swished his hips, mentally picturing it.
“So Faith? Wanna have that tour now?”
The girl held a silent grin at least happy to see he seemed to like the idea...and that, in itself seemed to secure a trip to the mall! “...Sure!”
Rene led Faith down to the bathroom at the end of the hall and from there back down stairs to the kitchen and then into the living room, with plenty of pictures atop the mantle.
The girl kept her crutch, just in case it seemed, but for the most part, she seemed to be trying to work the leg as good as she could, following him back and forth around the house, trying to memorise what she could, when they arrived in the living room. “It's so... big...” She finally mused aloud to him, looking round now in the living room full of pictures.
“Yeah well....” Rene was a bit embarrassed by his family's wealth, though the home itself was 'only' upper-middle class. “...I just like these pictures myself.”
“Oh?” The girl blinked trying to peer at the closest picture she could see; while Jingles slowly poked out of her robe pocket again seeming to have seen something he liked.
“Chi--” Jingles burbled as he poked at one.
“Jingle-Chan!” Faith called. “Come down before you--”
BUMP! “Chime?” Jingles asked as he bumped into a picture and sent it careening to the ground with a CRASH! and Tinkle!
“…Break something.” Faith finished lamely. Rene had a strained look on his face.
“It-it’s alright, I’m sure he didn’t mean any harm…”
“Can I help?” Faith asked as she started to bend over.
“No, no I’ve got it!” Rene said hastily, trying to beat her to the picture.
“At least let me pick this up—”
“Really, no—” Rene tried to protest.
Faith paused as she picked up the picture and turned it over. “…Is this your mom?” Rene’s shoulders slumped.
“Y-yeah, she was pretty amazing…”
“…Yes but something’s wrong here.” She mused. “Why is your mother wearing my gloves?”
“What?”
The girl carefully brushed aside a little of the broken glass, holding the frame towards Rene. “Your mother she's wearing a set of gloves in this picture the same gloves as mine!” She declared, before holding up her own arm, showing the long glove and the blue gem embedded in the palm, as Jingles seemed to return to her, loosely coiling round her neck.
Rene looked confused. “So you two have the same gloves. Maybe she got them from the same store as you—“
Faith shook her head. She kept holding them up for him to see. “Rene... these gloves are handmaid heirlooms... priceless treasures in the Sumisu shrine!”
“--T-then how could mom have gotten them?” Rene stammered out.
Faith licked her lips. “...Only members of the family shrinekeepers are given these gloves...” She suddenly looked around looking for other photos trying to see frantically if there were others; what other pictures there were, if the gloves would appear again!
Rene saw what she was doing. “There's a photo album on the shelf...” Rene suggested as he took it down and handed it to her. “This help?”
She looked in slowly...”Hmmm...” She sighed, looking through slowly, past the pages of very dominant looking male Vulpixes. “Who are all these people? They don't seem much like anymon you'd be related to.”
Rene’s voice was tight. “My dad's side: jerks and creeps of the last six generations. You can go on straight to mom's side. They're nicer”
Faith smiled as best she could, silently looking through, browsing backwards, until she came to a newspaper clipping of his mother...something from a battle long ago, as she smiled. “Your mother does look pretty...”
Rene looked sad and proud at the same time. “She is...thank you.”
Faith looked further through, sliding carefully over each picture and clipping...“She was a big contender in battles?”
Shrugging, Rene explained. “She battled for a while. Could've made it to the top, but pulled out of the league when my namesake—her brother—died…”
She took a moment, flicking through, not over the photos, but the newspaper clippings. “Rene…”
“Yeah?”
Faith held up the photo, showing his mother holding some sort of award and the hand grasping it, held a long glove, with a gem embedded above the back of her paw. Faith suddenly leaned over and yanked back her gloves and holding them up for him to see and compare. “She's wearing a set of our gloves, from the shrine all right!”
“I always thought they were just something she wore for ornamentation's sake. Never paid them much mind.” He mumbled.
Faith began flipping backwards never outside of the clippings were the gloves seen until suddenly--“There!!!”
Rene leaned in. “What's there?” Faith pointed. It was an old photo, maybe from his grandmother, as the Ninetales danced in some sort of festival, wearing the gloves too!
“And here!” Faith pointed. Back again, all the way back...until the very start of the album, it wasn't even a photo, it was an etched ink painting of two Vulpix, paw in paw; the female wearing the gloves, and full robes the same as Faith! “...No-one before me has left the temple in generations...” She whispered.
“...My mom's family belonged to your shrine?” Rene asked slowly.
“Well...” She scanned back through the later photos none of which bore the same robes, only the same gloves. “I'm...guessing that your great-great-so-many-great grandmother must have lived there. Our gloves are made from a special material. The gems protect them, so I'm guessing...they were just inherited, all the way down the line. Your mother probably didn't even know what they were for.”
“Amazing...” Rene breathed in awe. “C-could you contact your shrine? Ask about my great-great-how many great-grandmother? The one who left with those gloves?”
“Better yet... if you can find the gloves, I could probably tell you myself!” Faith affirmed.
“But, will that determine if we're related somehow?”
“I'm pretty sure this confirms it,” She nodded. “My family have lived at that shrine ever since it was founded...whoever this womon was—” She tapped the ink etchings. “She was related to me, somehow.”
“....Arceus....” Rene hugged Faith tightly. “Cousin!”
“Vulp!” She yelped, as she found herself hugged round her bandaged sighs, and grinned, slowly, but steadily, before she hugged him back. “Nice to meet you too, cousin!” Rene actually started crying a bit, but silently as he hugged her.
“Cousin....” Faith blinked, looking at his tears...making no complaints, as she hugged him more, hushing slowly, as only Jingles' gentle chimes could be heard in the breeze. It didn't mean much; but she could only imagine how much it meant to him, to have someone else to call family.

Awwwww, how cute!
Grace: I wonder if that was the thong I sent him...
Sammy:...?!
Grace: Hey, it's the least I could do for him. I sent him several cute underwear choices. Though I do need to go shopping with him soon. And Faith would be a welcome addition.
Sammy:...Thanks, now I have mental scars at the thought of Rene wearing a thong that you hand picked... *walks away*
Grace: *rolls her eyes*
