Meh this is actually kind of a crappy present, mostly because all I ever do is give him my artwork. I don't have enough money for anything else. :-/ So I guess we're in the same boat. :)

CHECKMATE! It woulda been kick ass if the black king was struck by the lightning. It did come out pretty awesome though. I love playing chess , sucks though cause I don't have anyone around here who can beat me.

Looks great! I really like the extra dramatic shadows. I think it adds a lot more than playing with the background ever could. The king and pawn are a nice addition too.

My dad always thought my artwork was the best present I ever gave, mostly because he valued the time he knew I spent on each piece. I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist.

Then again, art supplies are expensive too, so there are some things I did that everyone was like "Art is a good, cheap gift" until I showed them what everything cost in supplies alone. Framing is the worst! Ugh!

Anyway, I am sure he will like it.

PS- just thinking of the bad puns made me think it would be fun to make a board where it is obvious the pawn make the checkmate and title it pwned by the pawn. Maybe I need more sleep, but it was funny at the time.

Well, see, I'm even cheap when it comes to art, because I paint digitally, get it printed out for like 2 bucks, and then make my own frame out of poster board. XD

pwned by the pawn! That's a really cute idea actually. But can the pawn checkmate a king by itself? I think it'd need like 3 other pieces to help it, they're such wimps. :)

I think it could be done with just pawns, but it would take several of them. I'm not sure what the smallest number would be.

For most of my stuff, I'll get a frame from Wal-Mart or something, but there are a few I have had professionally framed.

Oh, I think he liked it pretty well. He wasn't completely blown away, but he seemed appreciative. I guess the real test is to see whether he displays it somewhere (he didn't do that with the last picture I gave him )
