I couldn't resist the title... I apologize :P
I've been working on this off and on for a little while now, both in learning how to draw Rodney and trying out a new shading technique that he suggested. If Rodney's design looks a little odd, it's because I was drawing his 'toon' design, though the paws are a little bigger than I think they're supposed to be for that version. The main idea was to draw his 'toony' look so that it would match better with the naturally cartoony appearance of both Chaos and me... but I actually feel like the standard Rodney might've been just fine. But then I wouldn't get that awesome hat and the big eyes! These are the sorts of debates that keep artists up at night ;)
In terms of shading, it's a much softer style and therefore a bit more involved than my previous method of underpainting and 'erasing' the shades of the picture. It actually took quite a bit of time... and I don't know if I'm entirely satisfied with it. I like parts of it, certainly! It really feels like it adds a 'roundness' that was missing from my shading, but it's also very rough right now, so I'll have to work at it. It also feels a little dark for my style, but that might just be the color palette in general for this one.
Anywho, enough blabbering about the process! This is a picture of me and my buddy
chaos99 setting
dj-rodney up in a rather embarassing situation. Aside from just being tickled and having his feet on display, he's also trapped in a giant honey like any good "silly ol' bear" should be! From his expression, I can't really tell if he minds or not, but the joke was too good to pass up. I'm not sure whether me or Chaos would have made up these stocks, as we're both pretty big Disney fans...
Both of these guys are great sorts, so please check out their art if you're not already :) They deserve a lot more attention than I can give.
