Yeah, folks tend to forget the French kept the English to a standstill for 100 years during the aptly named 100-year War. The Medieval French even nearly conquered all of England at one point.
...Frankly, the real problem with the french is that, after Napoleon, their fighting spirit just turned to crap.

We stole countries! That's how you build an empire. We stole countries with the cunning use of flags! Just sail halfway around the world, stick a flag in. "I claim India for Britain."
And they're going, "You can't claim us. We live here! There's five hundred million of us."
"Do you have a flag?"
"We don't need a bloody flag, this is our country you bastard!"
"No flag, no country! You can't have one. That's the rules... that... I've just made up! And I'm backing it up with this gun... that was lent from the National Rifle Association." - Eddie Izzard

I like the concept of this piece, mostly because as a full blooded Englishman it is my duty to conquer any territory claimed by France. It's a tough job, but honor must be served.
I do have a few qualms with the image, though. The pose appears, to me, to be quite awkward. The perspective is strange in that her shoulders and boobs are at a weird angle, with the bishop being face on to the camera (as it were) it looks a bit like she's standing on a slope in an impossible way when you look at the shoulders but not the lower half of her body. The arms are also strangely positioned for the shot. I'm not really sure why they're clasped infront of her like that. These issues, I think, could be improved just by altering the torso's alignment. Her ass is in the right perspective to the bishop, and if her right shoulder was lowered and the torso twisted a little bit. Her left arm could be lifted or raised out of the way so as not to obscure the bishop or her ass+flag and not alter the composition of the piece.

She's in a bit of a twist, lleaning onto a table, but I totally understand what you mean. although to a degree, and I know this sounds like a cop-out, but to a degree I like having the different parts float around a bit. I'm not going for true to life as much as trying to throw in different images to make a single picture. The focus of course is her, and the bishpo is smaller and off to one side as a companion peice to her. Not as important, so he's a bit detached, then the background itself is just to add a little atmosphere and setting to them.
And while I've got a lot of English in me as well I've also been playing Jeanne d'Arck on the PSP and it's incredibly fun. So I'm learning to appreciate the French more and more.

Indeed, women with brain tumour induced voices leading them on bloody cruesades. Good stuff. Mind you, one of our most well-known kings, Richard the Lion Heart, was French, and I do not believe ever set foot in England itself. It's fun to think that all the nationalist rivalry and tension that we have these days mattered not a bit to the people of the time.
Not a cop-out, B. There's nothing wrong with playing with perspective, it just throws me off a bit. It's almost like having a multi-panel comic without the borders. The view is more abstract (is that the word?) as a composite image to express an idea rather than a direct snapshot of a moment in time.
