Directly from the Apollo Space program from the 1960's and early 1970's, this launch vehicle is almost similar to the Saturn V moon Rocket.
Standing at 365 feet tall, this launch vehicle costs about 4billion a launch. It is designed to launch heavy loads into earth orbit, or lighter loads for interplanetary travel.
the First stage contains five Rocketdyne F-1 engines, each producing 1,500,000 lbs of thrust. Augmenting the five F-1's are a set of four AIRSTRAP solid boosters, designed to aid stability.
The Second stage had five J-2 engines, smaller thrust engines, designed to fire after the first stage separated after launch
The Third stage had only one J-2 engine, designed to stabilize the payload in orbit.
The rocket was not without faults.
The 1981 and 82 launch were problem filled, with the first launch making into orbit, but the strapon boosters failed to separate after two minutes into flight. The 82 flight, had the first stage explode after being jettisoned, killing six on the ground.
The 85 launch, a defective strap on booster caused the rocket to fly out of control seconds after launch into a town, killing the designer (my fursona's "father")
After that, the Rocket went through numerous design changes and internal modifications, being successfully launched in 1990, 1992, and 1999, the latter launch carrying parts to the international Space Station.
