I am loving ZBrush more and more! Sculpting involves building up a base mesh with Z-Spheres (balls you size, pull and position to the desired shape). It even has symatry so when you make one leg the other is built automatically.
Once you have your basic shape, you convert it into an editable mesh. Then you start sculpting the mesh to bring out the necesary details.

No. It is primarely designed to be a digital sculpting and painting program. By painting I mean you can paint directly onto the 3d model then save that out as a texture map that you would then apply to the model in an animation program such as Miya, Lightwave, 3D Studio and even Poser.
Zbrush and Mudbox are by far the two most powerful programs for generating normal maps for lower poly models (with Mudbox having the simpler controls but Zbrush having more power, imo). It's simply amazing what we can do with either of the two programs nowadays.
By the way, good looking tauntaun ;9

Basically you build a low poly mesh and use subdivide to build up the details for mapping. THe trick is not to save out the high poly count model when converting to OBJ format for importing to other applications.
I will need to redo the Tauntaun body since the fingers shperes were overlapping too much and I can't get good detail inthe fingers and toes without it pinching. I found a better tutorial for doing hands and feet I will use next time.

Very sorry but this is a project for the back burner. The model needs to be reworked for better feet and hands since I can't seem to model this version withthe pinching that is happenning in those areas. This means me having to relearn 3D Studio Max so I can build a batter base mesh to sculpt onto. In teh mean time I am still working on sculpting and a few new fursuits and hopefully some new drawings thrown in for fun. The CG tauntaun is still a project I will be working on since it is a passion of mine it just may take some time.
If you know of anyone that would like to take what I have so far and expand on it, I am willing to share what I have so far.

Oh.... I tinkered in 3DSMax many years back. Then I decided 3D was just too complex for me.
Well.....that is an extremely sexy form and posture. I hope the Mk2 will be similar in those respects. Regardless, I'll certainly be watching this project intently. Hopefully she....or he... will animate nicely too.
I have to ask though, as I know you tend to do a lot of males.....what will this model's gender be? Or perhaps intentions to make both?

The Stop Motion miniature had oversized legs and a tiny head:

I am hoping to model something inbetween and slightly more strramlined for easy animating.
The joy of CG is that is is easy to modify sculpts to be either gender. If you prefer the felames, you might enjoy these sketches:

Oh yeah, I've seen those already And a growing number of other tauntauns as well. I'm pleased to say that female tauntauns seem to be gaining popularity.
But as you perhaps know, I have strong preference for the ferals, and I've also seen some of your CGIs, so I'm very much looking forward to seeing your tauntaun model's future appearance, even though I doubt it will be this year. I can wait.
I think.
