I still miss Ch'p... but B'dg is petty cool, yes. And while I prefer the original Rocket Raccoon, that's mostly because I like a little light-heartedness now and again. The rewrite made him so darn grim.

I never knew much about Ch'p and original Rocket Raccoon, it's not like I can find any source from comic easily here (except internet, which is limited). The last time I read about Ch'p is that he's gone and resurrected as Black Lantern once... *spoiler*

Well, the short form:

Ch'p was originally rendered in a style like B'dg, but got more cartoony in later years. Eventually he went to the Mosaic World to visit John Stewart... and was run over by a yellow truck. Literally. Ch'p fans have never entirely forgiven them such an undignified death. (Aside from his brief appearance as a Black Lantern, he's also alive in most of the animated series and a few comics.)

Rocket Raccoon was originally much more comedic. Halfworld, his home planet, was an asylum for insane humans ("Loonies") which was originally run by robots. The robots became self-aware and decided to work on curing the Loonies -- but they couldn't do so while taking care of them. So they took the animals that were provided for therapy purposes and genetically engineered them into sentient bipeds to replace them as caretakers.

Really, it's funnier when you read it. After all, the whole thing was inspired by the Beatles song, Rocky Raccoon, which isn't exactly serious.

Somewhere I have this issue still and I remember it because the whole mosaic world thing was weird, even for GL!
