For my son-butt's creature design contest on DA
I sneezed something out after all! <3
This species is now called Dranalith. Drinali is the plural form.
The frill on it's head is flexible enough to lay flat like a frilled lizard, but can have a special chemical pumped through it that will make it stronger than steel!
Same goes for the spiky things on it's neck, hips and base of tail.
The spikes on the tail tip can be fired at enemies like porcupine quills, are barbed, and poisoned.
The sections along it's belly and underside of it's neck are actually folds of skin. With the frill and spikes.fully softened, it can stretch up to 50 feet so that anywhere it's head will fit, the rest of the body can follow.
When it's spikes and frill are hardened, it is roughly the size and litheness of a cheetah.
The lowest set of eyes are normal. They can be any shade found in nature.
Next ones up are heat sensing. These are a pale green.
Third pair are for under water. They are the silvery grey of fish eyes.
The forth and smallest are for detecting things in front of the sun without glare or sun damage. These are white.
It is EXTREMELY rare that all four pairs of eyes are open at the same time.
It's jaw unhinged like a snake so it can swallow large prey whole when necessary. Though it's impressive array of teeth most often make that moot.
It's tail and 24 inch tongue are prehensile and strong enough to strangle large prey.
It's saliva is also poisoned.
It has cameleon skin and can blend into it's surroundings impeccably to wait for prey or to hide.
It is capable of displaying any combination of colors or pattern, but each beast typically has a 'favorite setting', so to speak.
They are capable of taking down prey twice their non-extended size and prefer larger prey, since it means they don't have to hunt as often.
When they are camouflaged, their eyes can often 'give them away'. Thus, they have developed incredible senses of smell and hearing.

I may end up keeping these babus and giving you 'special permissions' son-butt!
