The next morning, Orkæn headed down to breakfast with the other wolves. Everything seemed so surprisingly normal. After breakfast, Farniadus told him more about their kind and what they do. Intrigued, Orkæn listened intently.
“There are nine clans,” Farniadus explained, jotting them down on paper. “In each clan are nine packs. In turn, each pack contains nine squadrons. Each clan was named for its most dominant pack. Each pack represents one of the ten elements, except Light, and is the same in each clan. The squadron that best uses the element of its pack is the most important of that pack. Each squadron was named for its specialty, and is the same in each pack of each clan. In each squadron, a wolf is assigned a specific rank and status within the squadron, which he must be trained for in his initiation period of one year since transformation.” Farniadus gave the sheet to Orkæn for him to review. “Here is the list of clans, packs, and squadrons. The dominant pack of each clan is in the same row as the clan, whereas the chief squadron of each clan is in the same row as the clan. Study them to make sure you remember them.”
“Each clan, pack, and squadron has a leader we call an alpha. There is the Squad Alpha, who is in charge of the squadron. I am the Alpha of our squadron. The Pack Alpha leads the entire pack, and all its squadrons. Then there is the Clan Alpha, who is in command of all nine packs in the clan. Finally, we have the Supreme Alpha, who commands all clans, packs, and squadrons, and every individual Twilight Wolves follows him. Or we used to. The last one was killed two centuries ago. We never had another one since, as we are too afraid to risk it again. To be a Supreme Alpha, you must take responsibility for all the wolves who look up to you for guidance. A Supreme Alpha’s death is disastrous, and he always takes the greatest risks.
“But the prophecy says that the Chosen One must become the Supreme Alpha to inspire all Twilight Wolves to fight at their best in the final battle against the Kamons, for we wolves need the best leader available who is most fit for the position to ensure victory. Orkæn, you are the Chosen One, and you are destined for this. You must be trained for the position, but I know you have what it takes to be a Supreme Alpha.”
Orkæn jerked back, startled. “M-me? But how am I supposed to lead the Wolves of Twilight? I’m not that much of a leader! I’ve never been—”
“But you are a leader, Orkæn,” Farniadus interrupted. “Your human and wolf lives are different. The qualities you lacked as a human were now strong in you as a wolf. You are an Alpha in training. We need you, Orkæn, to lead us in the act of protecting mankind from the wrath of the Kamons we fight, and the time of the final battle grows ever closer.”
Orkæn thought this over. In the end, he sighed in defeat. “Alright. If I am to be a Supreme Alpha someday, I might as well accept it.”
“Good,” Farniadus said, smiling warmly. “Now, moving on to the next topic. Every Twilight Wolf, upon transformation, was given a set of special abilities and the facility to use magic. Each wolf’s powers are unique. According to your Soul Gem, your known abilities include Hyperspeed Motion, allowing you to move faster than light, down to every minute twitch; Decisive Divination, allowing you to clearly foresee the result of each choice before you make them; Hallowed Strength, giving you extreme strength beyond measure; Exponential Spirit Growth, which is automatic, causing your spirit to grow in power; Light-Clone, the ability to create clones of yourself out of light; Telepathy, allowing you to read minds and project your own thoughts; and Warpstep, which allows you to teleport a short distance with one step.
“Unfortunately, there were inadequate information regarding other special powers, but it was suspected that you are the mortal incarnation of the Great Light Spirit Faoru, with the Eternal Light Source. Faoru is the most powerful of the ten Great Spirits, for he is The Light. And only he could safely wield the Eternal Light Source. It was He whose powers bound the Kamon Lord to his prison. The Kamon Lord’s prison is weakening, and soon he will escape. But true dominion cannot be obtained unless Faoru is defeated first.
“Though there are major traits related to your Soul Gem. Your Soul Gem has Eternal Light Source, Strong Leadership and Master Elemental Entity. These traits were granted to you for good reason. Only the Chosen One would have such traits, and you are that Chosen One.”
“I see...” Orkæn said, nodding. This news disturbed him, but he realized there’s no point in denying it. “I wonder what I must learn before becoming the Supreme Alpha. Are there any special training involved? I don’t suppose that it would be in any way an easy job, right?”
“Of course,” Farniadus beamed. “You need to learn magic and combat, mostly, as well as leadership skills. Also, before we begin, it would be prudent to give you a tour of the whole realm we now live in. You must learn every inch of this realm to navigate easily should a battle be fought here, which is as likely as in the Kamon Lord’s domain. Before we explore the city and the basin it resides in, I will first show you the rest of the estate, as it is now your only home.”
Throughout the rest of that morning, Orkæn toured the mansion. Much of the manor Orkæn recognized from his days visiting Jake at his family mansion. The kitchen, dining room, living room, game room, restrooms, library, laundry room, spa/bath rooms, lounge, and study were found on the first two floors. Floors three to four held bedrooms, and private restrooms. The attic lay on the fifth level. Located below the house was the basement/cellar. Outside and behind the mansion were located the barn, workshop, pool, courtyard, garden, and orchard.
But there were things about the estate Orkæn didn’t know about. There was the armory located underground, where arms and armor were stored. Next to the workshop, there was a forge where weapons were crafted. A small arena for combat and magic was to be found between the barn and the orchard. And then there were multiple meditation spots in the garden. Through all this, Orkæn was amazed. Obviously, the mansion and estate were much larger than Jake’s own, yet it made sense due to the number of wolves living at the estate.
When Orkæn and Farniadus arrived at the forge, a burly, husky Twilight Wolf giant with red and green patterns and brown eyes introduced himself as Cyénrû. Cyénrû was an expert smith, and had been a smith for several decades. He had been raised in an honest family, with his father and elder brothers skilled in smithcraft. Growing up, Cyénrû learned from his father everything about forging blades, weapons, armors, and shields, among other things.
When he was a boy of sixteen, Cyénrû’s family was killed one night due to a house fire started by the Kamons. The forge was on the first floor of the house, with the living area on the second and third floors. When the Kamons spilled superheated molten metal everywhere, the foundations gave way and the building crumbled. The fire started immediately after. Cyénrû was somewhere else that night, sleeping over with a friend of his. He returned to find the house in ruins. The fire department wasn’t fast enough to save his family. Cyénrû lost everything that night, and to no other than the Kamons and their wicked and corrupt leader. The Twilight Wolves found him huddling in an abandoned store, which was closed down owing to poor economy and marketing. When the Twilight Wolves invited him to join them, he accepted. From that day, Cyénrû perfected his craft technique to elite standard, creating weapons and armors which he magically enchanted to destroy Kamons and defend against their attacks.
“You see, even though I would love to personally throttle that damned Kamon Lord’s spiteful throat myself, I realized that vengeance can be done in subtler ways than physical violence just for the same effect.” Cyénrû nodded toward the tools and enormous cauldrons. “I had to prove that I can still continue my craft even after the family forge was destroyed. Also, by creating warfare items that are very effective in both offense and defense in battles against Kamons, I am able to strike back a major blow against the Kamons.”
Cyénrû indicated the plaque on the far wall showing the promotion and his career certificate. “The Council of Clan Alphas even declared me as the best smith among Twilight Wolves.” The big wolf grinned at the memory. “I am currently making the highest-quality weapons and armors for our squadron and the Alphas, as well as those of more moderate quality for the rest of the army. All of my work are both more reliable and of better quality than those of other smith wolves. If you want weapons and armor of the best, I would be your wolf.”
Orkæn glanced at his new sword. Unsheathing it, he examined the blade more carefully. Seeing Orkæn doing so, Cyénrû smiled. “Ah, yes, the blade of the Chosen One. I made that one, you know? When the Clan Alphas discovered that the Chosen One was born, which just so happened to be you, they showed me the prophecy and told me I must be the one to forge the Chosen One’s own blade. You are the Chosen One, and you are destined to wield this sword.”
Cyénrû smiled, laying a paw on Orkæn’s shoulder. “It looks like the sword actually fits you. It suits you very well. Perfectly balanced, magically as sharp as diamond or sharper, and just as unbreakable, laced with potent countermagic to breach even the most powerful of magical wards the Kamon Lord might wrap around himself, it is the perfect weapon for the Chosen One to wield in battle. If anything can slit that Kamon Lord’s throat, it would be this blade.”
Orkæn, astounded beyond anything, could only but admire the legendary smith with great wonder. He didn’t even realize that the creator of this blade was part of his squadron. But it all made sense: a Chosen One’s blade must be made by the most elite of weaponsmiths, and that smith must be in the most elite squadron of the Twilight Wolves. And that squadron turned out to be in the Shadow Pack of the Fallen Angels Clan.
“Thank you, Cyénrû,” Orkæn said simply, after managing to find his voice again. “I didn’t realize that I would someday meet the creator of my blade, much less be his brother in the same squadron. But now, I know who created this sword. Yesterday, after my transformation, this blade was given to me, and I felt unworthy of it. Even now, I still don’t feel that worthy.” Orkæn bowed his head to Cyénrû and Farniadus in turn. “But if you made it specifically for me, Cyénrû, as a gift from you and the Alphas, and if you truly believe I am worthy of wielding it, then I accept this gift. I promise I will take good care of it.”
“I’m sure you will,” said Cyénrû, nodding in approval. “Now that you have a powerful blade to fight with, you must train with it and learn its capabilities, including its benefits and limitations, as well as the special magic and abilities that came with it. In order to use it effectively in battle, you must become so familiar with your sword that it becomes an extension of your entire being. In fact, there is a peculiar characteristic about this blade that you might find amusing: since it is enchanted to only accept the Chosen One, to whom it was made, the rapier will bind its magical essence and power to his own being, upon the first contact that confirms the touch of the Chosen One after his transformation into a Twilight Wolf. This means that the sword cannot be taken from you without your consent, and only you can use its powers.”
So our young canine hero-to-be now begins his training, starting with proper preparations that will help him throughout his training and learning the layouts of his new home. Seems like Orkæn is surprised to meet the weaponsmith, yet it worked out seeing that he soon accepted his role as the Chosen One. Stay tuned!!!
