This is an image from my helmet camera during a ride I had today. This one really captured a sense of speed, but also some sheer beauty of the road that you really don't notice as you're riding.
Now for a PSA:
Tonight was a rough night. I am posting this late at night since I just got home, way way later than I wanted to. Why? One of my riding buddies, who was riding at the rear of the pack tonight, got run over by a car.
He was in a Rotary (Traffic Circle), two lane one, on the inside edge though cutting it wide. He is still new-ish to riding, and he wasn't trying to keep up at all with any of us, just riding his own ride having fun. He was at the very rear of the pack. A car, also on the inside lane, rode up on his ass, wasn't paying attention, went INSIDE of him on the inside lane, then broadsided him as they suddenly wanted to take an exit from the rotary (travel lane is inside, exit lane is outside).
He was knocked off his bike, bike slid sideways and was dragged by the car, and my friend actually got run over. On the back of his riding jacket is a very very obvious tire mark. He seemed O.K. at the scene, but as I helped him limp his bike back home, he got worse. At the moment he is in the E.R. getting all his sores and pains checked out.
Please, for the love of god, look out for motorcycles. You have four wheels, and 3,000lbs of steel. We have 400lbs of motorcycle and us exposed. When I saw he wasn't with us I thought he went home (he was gonna split off and go home), but then I got a call from him saying he got run over. I BLASTED back to him, disregarding all traffic laws, to make sure he was o.k.
He should be fine, but please please watch out for motorcycles!
