Wasn't see stabbing at the tattoo/brand that was her last link to Arlong? At that point Luffy stopped her from killing herself but let her greave for her perceived "loss" of her village, before he stepped in to defeat Arlong.
I might be wrong on the timeframe of that encounter though... but that's the way I remember it.
