This is the only car we saw while we were driving on the road near Amboy. The only one with any PEOPLE in it, anyway.
Also, another gasline warning sign --- be careful when you dig deep holes next to the road out in the middle of the Mojave Desert.

The Mojave is HUGE --- the portion in Southern California alone is bigger than the UK! It always amazes me that these kinds of places are just across the mountains from where I live.
As for my sister's geology course, all she has to do is collect the required number of samples, turn them in, test them, and that's pretty much it.
In the mean time, I get to run amok in the desert! XD

I'm not sure what James Axler's books are like, but Outlander is a "Roadblasters" type of game. The objective is to bust into a post-apocolyptic Australian Outback in an armored, machinegun-fitted muscle car, rescue a VIP, and destroy everything that gets in your way.
It's kind of a knock-off of "Mad Max", and this is no accident --- when Mindscape (the company who made the game, who signed a deal with the firm that owned the rights to the franchise) made what was to be the Mad Max videogame, the owner of the series dropped out at the last minute.
Since Mindscape had a 100% complete title, they decided to cut thier losses by making a few small changed to the game, in order to avoid infringing copyrights.
The result was "Outlander". It's one of my all-time favorites. If you want to play a ROM of Outlander, drop me a note.
If you want to see the game in action, check out this video (it's crappy compared to how the game itself plays, but it gives you a feel for it); http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05-motwSWr4&feature=related
