suck a little bit of really watered-down ink into a straw, drop-splatter it on the paper, get the straw at the right angle, blow, let it settle a little, blow again!

Ingenious! The only watercolor tip I have is that if you break open a bic mechanical pencil, you can break the nib back of the inside tube, and use it as a stylus by just dipping it in watercolor.

something i've started doing lately that's kind of related.. drawing in cheap ballpoint pen, which can give a wide range of tones and blends surprisingly well, and then going over some of it with a light colored [or colorless blender] marker like a copic or prismacolor. it looks really weird and watercolory, and a lot of the time the ink will do weird tricks like separate randomly, leaving half of one part pinkish and the other part blue or something.
