Heh, not sure exactly. The director wanted them to look more "solid" than flame (although I put a little flaminess on top), and glowy. I opted that they should be a bit see-through, but I made them too smooth looking the first time around, looked sort of like 3D models, which didn't really fit the style of the bestiary so far, so I was asked to texture them a little more.
