Actually, I don't really get any interference from the muzzle brake from either glare or anything else when I shoot. And say this as the rifle in the pic taken from a reference pic I had of my modded Mosin Nagant, which Folly got the details of wonderfully I might add. If anything, the muzzle brake keeps me from dislocating my shoulder from the recoil of the Mosin. With the muzzle brake on there, now I just have a dull ache in my shoulder after a day of shooting. Anyone that's ever fired a Mosin Nagant knows exactly what I'm talking about concerning the recoil.
As an afterthought though, I will admit that the scope mount I used in the reference pic is NOT the actual scope mount I'm using on it now. I was waiting for the right parts to come in for the mount but I needed to get the reference pic to Folly, so I just slapped a random mount on there for the time being. The mount used for the reference absolutely would NOT stand up to the (in)famous recoil of the Mosin. I've got the reference pic floating around in my scraps, actually, if you wanna see.
about the muzzle brake is the orientation of the "exhausts" only downward, so i can only see the gun going riculously high up, and potentially turn the shooter over it's back.
but i can agree with the mosin having a big recoil, saw some shooting and even when equiped with a rubber pad, seem to kick a lot. never fired one though, in France you need to have a licence for that and a reason for owning a firearm (self-defense/sport/hunting) wich need time and money, for the moment i don't have much of the two.

Actually, the only part that's original is the barrel and chamber. Everything else has been replaced; polished chamber, the trigger is a Timney match grade set to a 2lb pull (breath too hard on it and it'll fire, but that's what the safety is for), the bolt is a total custom job with turn-down bolt and diamond-pattern knob, Archangel stock, new scope mount rail is another custom job, CenterPoint 4-16x40mm Adventure class scope, and the muzzle brake is yet another custom job. And though you can't really see them, the exhaust ports on the muzzle brake are actually on the sides and top to lower muzzle climb, which it does so rather effectively. All this, plus I hand load my own ammo. In all, I have nearly $700 invested in what has become a deadly little toy that's very accurate at medium range (for the uninitiated, roughly 50-350 yards). My personal best groups with this rifle thus far is a 1.5 inch 5-round group at 100 yards and a 5-round group at just over 2.5 inches at 150 yards. Not exactly a tack-driver, but more than enough for a solid kill shot on medium to large game with the right load.
They kick like a mule. But a decent padded butt stock was enough for my comfort so long as I didn't shoot it for more than an hour or two. (the double-barrel 12guage loaded with hi-brass was harsher) But I'd be fascinated to try one with a muzzle brake to see what sort of difference it makes, as I really don't know what to expect.
