These are some beanie pattern prototypes. (Which I will now ramble about at length.)
Pinkamena on the right there is my original small beanie pattern. She’s not a prototype. She is cute, but has no neck/head definition, which started to bug me.
DJ Pon-3 next to her was my attempt to just trim down the neck piece without otherwise changing the pattern. It’s okay, but it makes the head lean forward, makes the body look too short and fat, and generally just doesn’t quite work. So I decided to 100% re-do the whole thing.
The second DJ there is the first attempt at that. Body came out nice, accidentally make the head too big, and overdid it on the neck slightly, it’s too skinny and too long, so the head doesn’t stay up at all. Also the tail attaches weirdly, I feel. And colored eyes on these guys make them look like fish. That is great for the sea ponies, but not great for the beanies. Going back to black eyes after this.
Spitfire was the final test (and also a test of the new wings, which are SO awesome.) Came out exactly perfect, has a better face/muzzle definition, better body shape and legs, better neck, better everything. :D She’s also about an inch and a half longer. The wings take longer to do than my old folded ones though. I may bump up the price on beanies slightly now.
Now I just have to put cutie marks on all of them, and they’ll be ready to take along to the convention.
Next after that! Making a stallion version, and a little filly version. I’ll probably do Big Mac for the stallion. I’ve already done a batch of fillies in the old pattern to sell, (Cutie Mark Crusaders, Mane 6 as fillies, and Celestia and Luna) so I was thinking of doing something slightly out there, like Nyx or something. I’m sure somebody at either Everfree or Bronycon would buy a Nyx beanie plush. And that way I could test the horn and the wings at the same time. Maybe I’ll make Big Mac and alicorn too.
