I saw this jerusalem cricket, more commonly known as a potato bug, (an insect I personally hate because of a bad childhood experience with one) all tied up in a spiders web as I was watering this morning. Then out came the predator to snack on her prey. I couldn't resist a few shots to celebrate the demise of one of the ugliest and nastiest bugs in creation. ;3 That hole to the upper left was where the black widow hung out and scampered off to when I got a little too obtrusive.

I was chased by a tarantula when I was 4 or 5, I thought it was a monster, I was terrified, and it was at like 9p.m. so all you could see was the reflection of light off its eyes and hair... *shivers* I fucking hate spiders. I always kill them, always. Usually with my hands or a shoe. Hate those things...

I forgot. I still like Tarantulas. They are fun and the ones around here don't bite unless you really fuck with them.
And yes, that is a butterfly girl on my arm down there. There is a better pic of her here, if you like to see.

I usually kill black widows as soon as I see them. I may go back later to do this one in, even though she's out in a field, just on general principles.
I don't allow many spiders to live once I see them. I got bitten on my thumb by a brown recluse years ago and nearly lost it. I did lose a month of work while it healed. It was nas-teeee! That did it for spiders in my book! The only ones I like are the little jumping spiders, cause they're so cute and inoffensive, and daddy longlegs, cause they are so innocent and nervous.....plus they couldn't bite you if they tried.

They say there arent any here either. None this far west in the US. Bullshit! The brown recluse is the same spider as what they used to call the violin spider because of the violin shaped marking on their back. And they used to put out warnings about them all over California. Get it together people!!
I don't like any bugs. :P UGH. I remember as a child there were a ton of daddy long legs around. I remember they were quite populous on Long Island. I hated seeing them around. I never had any bites by them, but yeah, I thought that was a black widow.
I know they're part of the ecosystem like any other creature, and I'm fine with live and let live. But they come into my house and they die. :P End of story. I don't like spiders. :P
Finding a bug on me, you'll probably never see me freak out faster.

When I was 8 I was in my back yard and suddenly something bit the hell out of my thigh, right in front, about half way between my knee and my crotch. I slapped it hard and this potato bug fell out of my pants leg. Still alive! Eeewwww! It warped me! I've hated them ever since.
I got bitten on the thumb by a brown recluse back in 1998. I didn't know what it was till I got to the hospital 3 days after it happened and a specialist recognized the symptoms. I'd never seen the spider and thought I'd been stuck by a thorny plant that grew around there. My thumb was swollen up and all green like a big dill pickle. They kept me for 2 more days while they decided whether or not to amputate my thumb. This was after a doctor slit it open and scraped out all the flesh that was disintegrating from the poison. In the next week or so all the skin on my thumb sloughed off leaving it bare. It took a month for the skin to grow back and I wasn't able to work for that long. Needless to say, it was a real fun experience. *shudder*

what a great shot! holy shit!!!
ugh potato bugs creep me out, and not many creatures can do that!!!
on the other hand i LOVE spiders and especially widows, brown or black. the brown ones are native to So Cal.
i've kept both kinds as pets before. when they have babies it's an awesome thing to watch. they are really misunderstood (the widows) mainly because they are really rather "docile", they won't bite unless you antagonize them. i've had one on my hand before.
they're also excellent at pest control ;) as we see here in this pic, lol!!!!!

Thanks! I luck into all sorts of good pix lately.
I was sitting on a step of a house out on the coast one night, wearing shorts, and felt something on my leg. Looked down and it was a gigantic black widow walking up towards my crotch! Freaked me right out!!! I brushed it off as fast as I could. Still gives me the shivers!
I don't know how docile they are. I saw one in a sprinkler control box once. The box was about a foot long and 8 inches wide and 8 inches deep in the ground. I needed to stick my hand in the box so first I stuck a screwdriver down by the control I needed to mess with and that spider ran about 3 circles around the inside perimeter of that box so fast it was amazing! I never knew they could move that fast!! I decided I didn't need to mess with that control after all. ;3
