well there ya go. Mar's mother and father so now you can see just how much of an 'oddity' Mar is for looking like a normal human. in Dyson humanity occupies both extremes more than any other race. they are (on the grid and 'steel kin') the most intermixed and 'blended' (both genetically and culturally) and at the same time (though only 'off the grid' iron born) the most bigoted and 'Slagged' by far.

the term "slagged" is one of the WORST insults and curse words in the Dyson Vocabulary. what it means, is that the individual or group of individuals has deliberately removed all biological and culteral diversity from their bodies and society. basically our worst genocidal monsters from our own history would be considered "slaggers." if ANY "Steel Kin" Dyson calls you a "Slagger" or some derivative then they are literally two heart beast away from tearing you apart, and i am not saying that as a 'metaphor.'

one last thing on why humanity occupies both extremes. it is actually a 'loaded' statistics. all Dyson "off the Grid" Iron born are almost exclusively created by a single "Slagger" by use of some form of genetic engineering. and since Iron born do not live very long (50 years being the average) and having none of the advantages of Steel Kin they tend to have lots of children to compensate (think 'Dark Ages') though an 'off the grid' settlement tends not to last more than a century
