Formula 1 has really caught my attention this season. It's not because of the cars (they've been dumbed down so much), but rather the interesting personalities that make up the racing driver lineup. This got me thinking about creating my own racing driver character. I had to choose a fox because they seem to match the cheeky playfulness so many racing drivers seem to exhibit. He drives a Le Mans Prototype (LMP) instead of an F1 car simply because I find them more interesting to design. If you're into F1, hopefully you'll get why this guy's team is called Volpe Rossa Corsa!
I had a lot of fun focusing on the design for this piece, I think my favourite bit is the flame retardant sock for his tail :3
Crits are always welcome and very appreciated!

I've got some mixed feelings in regards to F1 as of now, but I suppose I'll summarize my thoughts as to say, I'm interested in seeing how both engine manufactuers (along with the teams) will work out the current 'power units' but also of course wondering if every issue regarding the fuel flow sensor among other things is honeslty...entirely sorted out. But we'll see. Far as drivers go, part of me wants to see Hamilton be champion but Rosberg is really coming into his own...then again Mercedes is so far a team that has everything together...we'll see.
To touch on not just LMP but prototypes in general...for what interest I've got in F1, I've held a stronger intrest in sports car racing given a higher potential for variety, although far as who 'wins' varies from series to series, class to class, although sometimes it isn't too hard to find some good sports car racing.
To speak specfically of this drawing, you've got quite a design, and aprt of me is already wanting to ask if that car is an LMP hybrid or LMP 'lite' (as well as engine, gearbox, etc). It's nicely sone, and it's always interesting to see how any artist tries to tackle on obvious issues with putting an anthro/furry in a vehicle meant otherwise for someone without a tail (among other features).
That and the only thing that comes to mind with the full name besides how Rosso Corsa if I'm not mistaken is the italian red color that is best known for Ferrari (and Alfa Romeo among others), so I'm gonna guess volpe means 'fox'? could be wrong (again)
Rambling aside...nice work there.
On a somewhat related note, much as I'm afraid to ask given how others have reacted...any thoughts on the US based Daytona prototype machines? more so given the Tudor United Sports car season this year?

Hey, thanks for your interest in this piece! I'll try and hit on each of the points you mention in turn:
-Yeah there's no doubt that Mercedes has got it in the bag this season. The way they've creatively packaged the turbo puts them way ahead of the pack. As far as drivers go, I guess I'm on the side of Rosberg; Hamilton has too much of an ego for me to really support him.
-I have to admit, I don't really follow as much motorsport as I'd like. I guess the closest thing to sports cars that we have in the UK is the BTCC which is quite entertaining to watch. I am a little jealous of the Germans and their DTM monsters.
-Glad ya like the design! I guess I had that new Porsche 919 in the back of my mind whilst drawing, hence the wide flat nose. I went a little crazy with the floating aero bits past the cockpit though. Since this is a fantasy piece I'm just gonna ignore the rules and say it has a gas turbine!
-You're pretty much there with the Volpe Rossa Corsa name. Unless Google translate is lying to me, it should translate to Red Fox Racing, a little homage to Red Bull Racing.
-Them prototypes look pretty nice, they remind me of the Maserati MC12. Wish we had stuff that cool on this side of the pond.
Thanks again for the kind words!

You're welcome and well...I try to do what I can, which to say the least has't been a lot as of late.
-Again, I am a bit split given that I see and figure Hamilton to be among the most skilled on the grid, but then again with a grid as competitive as what we've got today, it'll boil down to a lot of factors including again, if the car will last. That being said, it'll be something if Rosberg wins cause that would make him the 2nd driver to also have a father who also was a world Champion (the first being Damon hill after his dad Graham Hill).
-It's a wonder I don't follow the BTCC more, espeically given what races I used to follow when they were aired in the US in early 2000's. Been following the WTCC more although I have somewhat been following BTCC and interested how that'll turn out. Far as DTM goes, I've always held an intrest (thank you Sega Touring car), and part of me is hoping the sole American in that series, Joey hand will get better results...we'll see. I do like the cars themselves, and part of me is hoping that the supposed plan between DTM, Japan GT and IMSA for identical car specs for more series crossover, perhaps we'll see more DTM ish machines besides what's competing in the Japan GT. Time will tell.
-Heh, well, I suppose a gas turbine could be possible, it would depend on how the FIA would somehow equalize the use of a turbine given everything else.
-Ah, cause my other answer would have also refered a bit to Toro Rosso, formerly known as Minardi given like Ferrari, they're an italian team as well. That and quite a homage. I am a bit split over their success over the last few years but at the same time, they did work at it for a while, and few have been able to really give them a challenge. It seemed kinda clear by late 2013 that some teams were going to get ready for 2014...and it'll be interesting to see Red bull try to get back to being consistent front runners this year.
-Glad you like em, I guess I'm a bit hestiant to ask of them since well...like anything there's been mixed reaction towards them since their introduction in 2003, and why would be a bit of a longer ramble. But a short end ramble could be that since they aren't pushing tech-horizons as much as LMP machines (meant to be far more cost effectve so more people can operate them), among other issues, some have had less than kind words for them. It may help or hurt that the current 'balance of performce' for this season has so far been favoring the updated DPs more than the LMP2s even with a recent win with the later. We'll see how things actually pan out as the season goes. I do like them given they're another approach to race cars, and some of the racing can be interesting.
That and given 2014 did require them some upgrading so their speeds are closer to LMP2, I'll be interested to see what else comes down the line.
And you're welcome, again, I try to state what I can say...assuming it's remotely coherient and not too long.

-I'll try not to comment on Ham vs Rosberg any more incase you haven't seen quali, but my my does it get interesting!
-Good point about Toro Rosso, that was another reason why I decided to make up an Italian team.
-With regard to the Daytona prototypes, I'm all in favour of low tech racing. Hybrids and diesels seem to be more of a political move rather than a genuine effort to help the environment, but that's just my opinion.
I'm sorry I can't comment much more since I just don't follow as much racing as I probably should.
