Sorry, but I just HAD to share this with everyone! :D
I'm sure you already know that I've had a handful of Red-Letter Days since I started working out and eating right, but I think today is one of the biggest of them all!! Back in October and November of 2006, after several months of one of the most sedentary lifestyles imaginable, I ballooned up to 293 lbs. At my last weigh-in for my 30-day results for P90X, I was 196--just 3 lbs. shy of hitting that 100-lb. benchmark. But today, June 2nd, 2008, I weighed myself again out of curiosity, and came in at 190 lbs.
This means that not only am I officially in what even the BMI considers a "healthy" weight range (no longer "overweight" or "obese")--I have now lost OVER 100 POUNDS!!! 103, to be exact!! I can't even BEGIN to tell you how amazing this feels! I took a snapshot to commemorate the occasion. In the photos, you see me wearing THE SAME PAIR OF SHORTS that I was wearing 103 lbs. ago

Well, I started losing as soon as I got a job at a pet store, being on my feet and doing manual labor and such...that eventually got me down to 250 lbs. without doing anything else or changing diet or anything. But I knew I needed more, so I started with Power 90--the predecessor and much, much lighter version of P90X--and that's what really shred most of these pounds away. I'm in the middle of P90X now, and it's been doing wonders for me. I absolutely love it!
Of course it's tough! But that's what makes it worth doing, right? ;) What's great is that pretty much all the moves in all the videos are modifiable if you need to either start out lighter, or if you're advanced enough to make it more intense. Of course, with resistance training that's an easy one since it's just a matter of how much weight you use...but the other moves in the workouts such as Yoga, Plyometrics, and Core Synergistics are modifiable, too.
Something I wish they'd put in the infomercial is that P90X is NOT for beginners. (They DO mention this on their website and offer a free Fit Test you can take to see if you're ready to tackle P90X, and if you're not, they have other programs such as Power 90 they can recommend to you...but I still wish they'd mention this in the infomercial, too.) This is why I had to start with Power 90--I was too much of an unfit couch potato, and needed something that was designed more for burning fat on people with a very low level of fitness. P90X is for people who already have a certain level of fitness to begin with, which is where Power 90 got me in just one round.
But yes, if you stick with it, you can get real results. Tony Horton (the trainer in the Power 90 and P90X videos) constantly stresses listening to your own body--don't worry about keeping up with him and the others in the videos--just do what YOU can do that day, and so he shows ways to modify to make it easier or even more extreme.

Well, I made a big deal about this weight loss, but what's even more important than pure poundage (or BMI) is body fat percentage. You can be 210 pounds and still be very fit and athletic. ;) I now have 12.5% body fat, according to my measurements...which is amazing when you consider that it was 29.5% back in January.
Congrad's
kinda reminds me, of my own weight history.
1996 - over 320 lbs. (I'd had a very hard time in middle school with depression and it showed... all throughout high school it Showed.)
2006 - 132 lbs. (I'd gone over board, the other way, I could see my own ribs, and that still wasn't enough... my wife and my whole family were starting to threaten types of "dieter's rehab.")
2008 - under 160 lbs. (I wish that I could say that I am happy with my weight finally, but I still want to shave back off some of those vanity pounds... so I watch what I eat, and try to find time to work on my belly.)

this is awesome. I love real life success stories! I have a long way to go before I even get down to your starting weight. I never give up though. It's too important. I just picture the end result in my head and remind myself of how much I want it. Kudos to you for not letting yourself get to what I've become and turning it around when you had the chance. Now it's my turn. There's a local guy in CO here that is trying to lose 90 pounds this year and it's part of a thing on the radio for the station KLOVE. To me 90 pounds seems daunting for even a year's amount of time but if he can do it maybe I can too.
Congratulation on loosing the weight, and my sympathies on the struggle to keep it off. I had been struggling with weight for 20 years. It just kept going up. Then I found something that worked for me. Maybe it will help you. It is called Intermediate Fasting. In summary: you pick 2 non-consecutive days a week. On those days you eat 1/4 a regular day calories-about 600 calories. The 600 calories can be one meal, two meals, what ever you want; when you want them. It works best if you have 16 hours of non eating time to allow your blood chemistry to reset. You can even move the days around to accommodate parties and other social functions. You also need to include moderate exercise-walking briskly 45 minutes a day. The other days you eat what and when you want-no restrictions. It is very easy. No counting anything during the day, no gyms, no preparation to do, and no real feeling of being deprived since the light fasting only lasts 24 hours. There are large amounts of scientific research backing this up. The biggest benefit is not the weight loss, it is the stabilization of the blood chemistry. This is the definitive book on the subject
The Fast Diet: The Secret of Intermittent Fasting - Lose Weight, Stay Healthy, Live Longer
Mimi Spencer (Author), Michael Mosley (Author)
Amazon has the ebook for $10. Half the book is the theory and scientific research; half the book is 600 calorie meals with half page pictures. Just pick what you want, have it on hand for the fasting days. That simple.
BTW, I have no financial connection, in Amazon, this book, or the author. I am just a fan because it worked for me. Maybe it will work for you.
Best wishes

Many times I park away from the entrance of a store when out and about. The 7 minute walk in and the 7 minute walk out; meet 1/3 of my daily walking. By the time I get home, many days I do not need to go walking because I have already done my 45 minutes during the day. But I enjoy walking, I do some of my best thinking while walking in the evening; so I usually go out anyway.
Hope this helps.
