You can kind of see their cage in this one, petco box house, little platform with a ramp they NEVER use, hammok in the corner and the sideways water bottle that they always manage to knock over when they play.

Hehe, well my mom and dad absolutly ADORE rats so theres no problem there, and these two (especially Antigone) have warmed up to humans REALLY fast, barely 2 days after I got them home Antigone was already crawling into my shirt and snuggling my hands. I seriously love these guys
Yeah, they tend to figure out quickly were ok giants i guess.
After I got my first one, a male, a year or so later my cousin had bet rats as well, and needed to find a place for one. I got a second cage (my cages were very large fish tanks left over from the time my dad kept tropical fish) and put her in. She was exploratory, so I made a top for her cage. my original male was content to be in his cage, or would roam freely with minimal supervision in the house. Always coming around to say "hi" or to get back in his cage.
One morning the female managed to get out - mom was going thru the house early to get dads lunch ready for work, and found her crawling down the curtain next to the males cage. she jumped back in, and mom put the lid back on.
Made nothing of it until a very short while after as winter was setting in, i moved the cages and the stand they sat on to my room. One night im online and my younger bro comes in, pestering me to let him get online. I then hear him say, Oh my god!, and i look - she was in the corner of the cage, semi on her back and wedged in the corner, giving birth. I called mom in, and she came in and oh my god'dded as well. The first one popped out, she rolled it around, licked it clean, then got back in the corner with a glazed look... here came #2, and it repeated 3 more times...

Yeah, rats are known for their ability to reproduce. And their ability to escape and do whatever they want (they're REALLY clever and smart). I wouldnt let an unalterd male in the HOUSE let alone in the same room as my girls >.> I'm pretty sure rodents just have to look at eachother to get pregnant.
Anyway, what did you do with the babies?

Well, I kept 3 - names "Wash Spin, and Rinse" for a while till I found a home for them NOT being one with snakes involved. Two I gave back to my cousin - told her it was her fault for it 8=P - she had a few extra cages.
I started college not long after that and all but my original male ended up finding homes. My male actually lived almost 3 and a half years. He got a semi respectable burial in a Swisher Sweets Cigar box next to the grave of my beloved doberman that passed away from age a few years before I got the rats.
