in that story, you did think him as that at first, but when he killed a dragon with one of its own scales, it changed your view on him and then he became your love later on, and father of your cub/chick, its a very good story, its written in arcs

I guess that author got that wrong, since the birth scene was a live birth, in the later chapter, though Griff is stuck in the underworld trying to get back to you in the story
